Didn't see this anywhere.

Per the CEO of Activision - Bobby Kotick - he claims that the audience is "clamoring" for a subscription-based Call of Duty title

Neowin.net - Kotick: Audience "clamoring" for Call of Duty subscription service

Bobby Kotick, CEO and President of Activision Blizzard was quoted last week saying that if he could make one change for Activision, it would be to create an online world for Call of Duty. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Kotick said that doing so would give players a much more " compelling experience" in addition to really satisfying "the interests of the customers".

When asked what he would like at the snap of a finger, Kotick said "I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow. When you think about what the audience’s interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world.

"I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience. I think our audiences are clamoring for it. If you look at what they’re playing on Xbox Live today, we’ve had 1.7 billion hours of multiplayer play on Live. I think we could do a lot more to really satisfy the interests of the customers.

"I think we could create so many things, and make the game even more fun to play. We haven’t really had a chance to do that yet, so that would be my snap of the fingers."

When asked if such a concept was indeed coming, Kotick only replied "hopefully".

Call of Duty to go subscription – Eventually

When the Wall Street Journal asked Bobby Kotick “If you could snap your fingers, and instantly make one change in your company, what would it be, and why?” Kotick responded by stating:

I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow. When you think about what the audience’s interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience.

He later went on to state that players were “clamoring for it” and Activision would be able to “do a lot more to really satisfy the interest of the customers.”

Is Kotick discussing the long rumored Call of Duty MMO, or is this a possible move to turn the standard series into a subscription model with a longer support range and free upgrades? We all know Kotick can be a little out of touch when he speaks, do we really want to pay monthly for Call of Duty? I don’t remember asking for that. A CoD MMO to replace WW2 Online and Planetside, might be in order however.

As some may remember Kotick is noted as previously stating at a Morgan Stanley Technical Conference in 2008:

“…when you think about other properties that we own and control, like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment, and how do you monetize that,”

Are the plans soon coming to fruition?

...noone here's bothered at all that they want to make a call of duty game that you have to pay even more for by actually subscribing to it on top of everything else?

If people pay for it, who can blame them?

well yeah I'm well aware that the fact everyone keeps buying $15 map packs helped make this possible

But - even though I'm not a COD player - I would still think some of those that do play it alot would get upset

especially if it gets to a point of those who pay more have better weapons, etc

It's just they way games are going, people piss and moan about the 'greed' the companies have, yet they are willing to pay for the services.

It sucks, yes, but i reccommend everyone get used to it.

people that pay should have better guns, dedicated servers etc..I'd pay to try it out and see if its worth it..

it depends on what he meant by it. he was kind of vague on what he was talking about specifically. if he means making the whole CoD experience subscription based then they definitely won't be getting my business anymore. i like CoD but not that much. they already nickel and dime you enough as it is. if he means making a separate MMO type game then that's another animal....although i wouldn't be buying that either.

He's right. I mean, all my friends have been saying for months, "Man, I wish I could pay monthly for something I don't currently pay for now. That would be cool."
