Does anyone know the capacity of neylands student section or how to find it? I'm almost certain I'm finally attending UT next year and am stoked to be in the student section but I've been curious how ours ranks among the others of the SEC

The student section consists of sections D,E,F,G,H,I,J, and K. Section D is just the upper portion of the section so rows 30-64 and the lower portion of section G is where the band sits. My rough estimation has it at around 10,000 seats. This year they ran out of seats for both the Florida and the Alabama games, but in the past 4 years that is the only times that has happened.

Student tickets are allocated out on a point system based on how many home games you have attended. Non-SEC games are worth 2 or 3 points and SEC games are worth 1. Every year a quarter of your points from the previous year carry over to start the next year, so naturally seniors who have attended every game get the best seats. The key starting as a freshman is to go to the non-conference games.

Or don't be a nerd and sit in whatever seat you stumble upon

I think they messed up the point system last year, I'm a junior and had worse seats than I had my freshman and sophomore year. But I just moved to where I wanted to sit anyway so it's all good.

Do the individual SEC schools dictate the # of allocated seats for students or, does the SEC have requirements that all SEC schools must follow?

I'm a senior at UT. And one thing is all but certain. If you request a ticket in the early phase (not waiting until the last minute) you'll get a ticket. Capacity is about 10k which is roughly 1/3 of all students both grad and undergrad. Student ticket requests open at 8am 10 days before the game. If you request a ticket on that first day, you will get one.

Now, guest tickets are a little trickier.

Don't worry. Its (student section) not full most of the time anyway. You'll be able to get a seat. Its not like it was when I was in school there in the 90's and we camped out for tickets

Band sits in section H. The online seating charts are incorrect.

Camp out so we can wake up and use our phones to reserve tickets? Soubds logical.

Thanks for the info. 10,000 I think that would put us in the lower half of the conference. That's not right I wonder if after a few years of us winning 10-13 games a year that thy might increase the capacity? if students would consistantly show up then? And also is it true that its only been sold out twice in the past 4 years?

You have nothing to worry about. I was worried last year, before I moved in, but I made it to every game easily.

And yeah, you're right, if we win more the students will come more often. Alabama last year was embarrassing. Lots of students left in the first freakin quarter. Even the basketball team left in the second.

When I was a student, in early Majors era, we students went to games for the 'event' as much as for the team. Our team was not very good in those days but we never left early. A day in Neyland trumped any other event. Not as much TV exposure back then so had a lot more day games so Band Parties were not affected much. Congrats to all kids who opt to go to UT. It becomes part of your life forever and is always a home to come back to no matter where life takes you. Take it from an older well traveled VOL.

I'm a senior at UT, and I seem to remember a tweet, or a school email, or something saying that there were 12,000 student seats.
