Anybody have any old tales of feats of strength of past players?

GBO!

I used to work out with a group of 5 or 6 other guys at a gym in Clarksville. One day Harry Galbreath walks in just to shoot the sh*t. He was dressed in street clothes, not warmed up...one of the other guys just finished a set with 495 on the bar (bench), Harry puts another 45 plate on each side (585) and reps out three with ease. RIP HG

Chip Kell.

Hands down.

Chip Kell. Great memories. If I recall correctly Chip was a All American center and the very first draft choice of Paul Brown and the Cinci Bengals in their expansion year. That alone made me a Bengals fan for many years.

Harry was strong and one of the nicest human beings I ever met. RIP indeed.

Not sure who was the strongest but Jamel Lewis and Leonard little could bench over 600 pounds. I am sure John Henderson was right up there too

Little used to come in to Sams Party Store with Al (where I worked at the time) and pick up a philly's and a 40 of Hurricane about once/twice a week, both those brothers were stout.

Albert Toeaina was a monster. Got shut down at 500lbs after repping it like it was 225lbs.

Pound for pound Chip Kell would be hard to beat. He was only like 6 feet tall and about 250 pounds, I think he still holds the Georgia high school state shot put record. IIRC it's 65 feet plus or some unGodly number.

It`s been a few years, but I was in a powerlifting meet down in alabama. I saw Doug Furnas do a 900lb squat so easy people laughed. The man was a monster.

That was when he was only in the 220 lb class.

I was there when he did 975 for three reps after he moved up in weight.

Don't think he ever officially recorded 1000 in a meet but he did it several times in the gym.

Pound for pound nobody will ever touch him.

Doug Furnas was a powerlifting world champion and collegiate champion in at least three different weight classes.

Hacksaw Reynolds. After a loss, to Ole Miss I believe, used a hacksaw to cut his car in half!
