Arian Foster is not a Tennessee legend. He was a decent back, but that's it.

Me thinks AF should have left the Vols out of the conversation. I will never forget PF stating that one of Foster's fumbles deep in UT territory was the QB's fault. Those were not good times in Vol history.

These are the truly pointless arguments. Everyone has his mind made up already. Facts don't matter. For example, this guy I work with prefers to talk about how he 'feels' about how the game went. He talks about how things 'seem' to him. Bring up statistics and he just brushes em aside.

Simple truth is, Arian Foster was a big-time back who made some big-time mistakes. At least his mistakes were on the field. Those I can forgive. I don't like em, but most every bad play he had was an effort play. I can respect that. You don't end up on the career stats lists where he is without having talent and using it. Senior year, I think we can all agree that our entire offense was a failed abortion.

He will never be a beloved Vol. He didn't have the right personality and there was a lot of hate directed at the program and people in it during his years. That hate has served to tarnish a lot of good kids. Sad really. Had he played for us and did what he did in the early 80s he would be remembered fondly. As it is...

Foster is my least favorite vol of all time. Hardesty is twice the back he will ever be

South Carolina ('05): 1st half
Auburn ('08, probably more JC's fault): 1st half
UCLA ('08): 3rd quarter, with a TD lead.


It's not that these were in key, late-game situations. It's that we lost the games. What do you expect? They were during the 2005 and 2008 seasons. By my memory, Foster only ever lost one fumble in the 4th quarter. And that one (Penn State) is burned into our memories. But he takes too much heat for the others. Not his fault the team was too awful to claw back (in the case of Auburn) or maintain the lead (Carolina, UCLA).

. . . and if I remember correctly, there was still plenty of time left when he fumbled against Penn State.

This fits my memory as well. As does the fact that it took a small miracle for nobody in that pile to tackle the guy before he took it 80 yards.

It matters. Just understand that it happens to everyone who handles the ball that often. I remember 6 career fumbles for Foster, which is 1.5 a season. If you take out the two that were arguably the fault of the handoff, that drops to 1 per season. I'd say the rest of his play makes up for it (even though it dropped off in '08 behind an awful O-line and with no threat of a passing game).
