Strippling, Jancek, or Martinez?

Figured the biggest risk would be Richt taking some of the defensive guys, but that ship has already sailed. Knock on wood, I think Elder was the only casualty this season.

Now, if the defensive recruiting keeps going the way it is, the defense is going to be championship caliber likely starting next season. That's when the heat may turn up.

I don't like where recruiting seems to be heading this year. UT is losing too many battles. But you don't replace a coach over one player or even one recruiting class.

Actually, that's not even true about Kiffin in '09 - both Bryce Brown and Janzen Jackson were big fish at the time and both committed late and Brown even signed late.

If poaching Drew Richmond the week of NSD last year didn't convince you that Jones is different than Dooley than nothing will.
People tend to forget how good Janzen was. He could murder people from his spot. Hey-O

Although there may be a "surprise" in the making, I am not getting excited about it.
Remember the Kiffin & Dooley years, when in late January, we had rumors of a "Big Fish" for the upcoming recruiting class? THen there turned out to not be a big fish at all.

Remember that time when Kiffin didn't land Bryce Brown and Janzen Jackson after NSD?

Edit:

BB-85 beat me to it

Which one is leaving.

We had the number 1 JUCO recruit decommit.

Maggitt is not returning, after it really felt he would.

And there has been rumors that a "surprise" will happen.

If any leave, wouldn't you think they might bolt for an NFL job?

I'm thinking it's Jancik.

Hmm, turns out to be a pretty prophetic question in light of recent announcements...I'm going to guess Jancek! lol

Per Hubbs

Salaries are going up for Tennessee assistants, and not just at the defensive coordinator spot. Look for significant raises for Tommy Thigpen and Robert Gillespie, both of whom have been the targets of rival programs, and look for Willie Martinez and Mike DeBord to be in that category of those coaches getting raises.

Maggitt was always a long shot to return and Stripling will probably never leave Jones. Jancek and Martinez could leave for other college jobs but they are running out of those options.

Be honest, did you put a lot of thought into this post or is this just a way to pass time in between your cup of coffee and morning dump?

Morning Dump describes a lot of threads the last few days... many of the usual suspects.
