There is no weight for SOS in the BCS any more, so why worry about it.

If we had scheduled a weak D1 team for an easy win -- instead of Cal. We would have had the same record as UGA prior to the SECCG. Would a win have put us in the MNC?

UGA was getting the love at the end of the year, but a two loss UT that beat UGA may have made it as high.

I know - if my Aunt had rocks she would be my Uncle.

Next year we open with UCLA, the year after I think it will Oklahoma. Why even try that if there is no pay back in the rankings?

Our losses were by too many points to rivals. I say we'd be top 10, but no way do we get in the title game after 59-20. Just ask VT what a blowout loss gets you.

SOS is built into each computer ranking. They took the individual SOS out because they felt it was redundant.

When UT schedule Cal, they were not very good. And, UT uses games against bigger named opponents for recruiting purposes. I would much rather watch the Vols compete against some of the best teams in the country then to play a game against a gimme IAA team.

Colorado came very close to getting into the title game a few years ago. Amongst their 2 losses was a blowout loss similar to how the Vols lost to Florida. The BCS formula was tweaked (removing scoring margin) such that Colorado would have been in had they used it.

The voters wanted LSU. They knew that VT had to be low enough that their #1 computer ranking would not jump them over LSU.

Beating teams like Lousianna Monroe or Appy State won't get you much love in the polls but losing to them brings the kind of attention in the polls nobody wants.

Missouri was 11-2 with both loses coming to Oklahoma and 4th in s.o.s. Oklahoma 11-1 with and 74th in strength of schedule. I think I heard them say they only beat one ranked team.

USC 75th
Hawaii 118th

I don't know, I think I would much rather watch the Vols play in and National Championships like Ohio State. We need to model our scheduling of OOC's after Ohio State. I'm pretty sure we could take the likes of Youngstown State, Akron and Kent State.

Agreed. OSU's schedule this year proves that SOS does not matter one bit. End of story.

I could have sworn I heard somebody on ESPN say USC had one of the toughest (if not the toughest) SOS in the country. I knew that couldn't be right with them playing all the Pac-10 schools, but I didn't realize they were 75th. That's terrible.

They only beat 4 bowl eligible teams all year. 2 of whom are 6-6

Well, it's not their fault that the Big 10 sucked this year, but they could do a little better with the OOC games. They definitely had an easy road to the championship this year and still couldn't get by Illinois.

Tru....but, the Big Ten has sucked for about 5 years now. It's usually OSU, Michigan, maybe Wisconsin and then everybody else.

However Illinois is on the rise but Wisconsin seems to be on the fall.

OSU played exactly 1 team that is currently ranked in the top 20. Illinois, and we all know the outcome.

You'll get no argument from me, OSU shouldn't be in the title game.

OSU is the poster child for why SOS doesn't count.

Also, would App State beat Hawaii? I think they would.
Would UK? I think they would too.

SOS does matter. Just not this crazy year.

Anyone remember Auburn in 2004? The only reason they couldn't cry foul, was because their OOC schedule was made up the likes of UL Monroe, Citadel, and LA Tech.

Remember last season? One of the main reasons Florida jumped Michigan for the #2 spot was because of their SOS.

So are you saying that OSU had a tough SOS?

I don't think Cal even made a bowl this year. They are a cupcake and that's the problem. We should have whipped them like we did last year but Fulmer is so stubborn that he had to kick to Jackson so he could return it for a td and give them the momentum that we could never get back. 9 or 10 of the teams in the SEC could have beaten Cal. In all reality, Tennessee should have won every game but maybe Florida but that would not let Fulmer look like he did a tremendous coaching job after our blowout losses. When you have better talent than 90% of the teams that you play, winning 76% of your games is a letdown not an accomplishment.

It doesn't change the fact of DJax being kicked to, but CPF told Britton not to kick it to him. Britton admitted as much to the mistake after the game.

I agree let's schedule MTSU, UTC and Carson Newman

Ohio State played Texas in '05 and '06. They have signed for series with Miami and Oklahoma. Also, anyone trying to pass Cal off as a quality opponent should be immediately banned.

People forget that Cal lost their starting QB and went into a slide just like Oregon.

Still not a great team, but not a sure win.
