I have a few questions and hope someone on Volnation is familiar with the subject.

1) Is there anywhere you can view UT's details on training ?
2) Does the football strength coach help train all the other sport teams and how many assistants does he have ?
3) Is swimming endurance programs part of the conditioning for the football team ?

Check my Username. Just curious if the details are out there for the public. Hopefully the next person who answers is not a smart.....

He was making fun of Michigan...not you. It's all good. See, let me explain. We just dominated Michigan on the recruiting trail this week and of course they want to know everything we are doing to pull "their" recruits away. You simply sent a really slow softball right across the plate and our friend simply knocked it out of the park. We are on your team. We are friends. We are Vols. We are making fun of Michigan. YEAH!!!

1. I doubt it, that seems like it would be proprietary information.
2. I'm curious about this as well. I can't remember where I heard this, but I heard that Rock Gullickson was dismayed at the fact that he had to work with non-football athletes. I could be completely wrong on that.

4. Jim Harbaugh and the rest of their yankee fans might want to consider loading up on Preparation H for their butthurt.

I don't know the full details, but I'll add what I know until someone who does. The men's basketball team has their own, Garrett Mendenwald. Lady Vols Basketball, Lee Taylor. After that, I'm unsure if any other team has their own, I'd guess most do.

Thanks. As far as No. 3 , my personal opinion is that swimming for cardio/endurance would be extremely effective because it would lessen the pounding on the knee and ankle joints. Not saying we should eliminate running endurance altogether but swimming maybe could supplement or replace small portions of the other training.

Yeah I know and I was making jokes about the Michigan website on another thread. I was curious about aspects of the UT strength conditioning program. I remember a special on the Alabama S.C. coach a few years ago and was amazed at their efforts to track everything on the individual players with strict guidelines on weight and nutrition.

Call the university athletic Dept and ask to talk with Strength Coach in which ever sport you wish to find a program. They are always willing to help high school coaches.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a video of the underwater resistance training that’s in the football facility. Could be wrong though.

I would be shocked if the football training staff trains athletes from other sports. Seems that training experts for specific sports would be used to implement specific programs.

I doubt you’ll be able to get specific routines and techniques from the UTAD. Seems like something they wouldn’t want available to the general public.

Different sports require different conditioning. Football is bursts of energy. Swimming is constant effort. Seems like they would require different programs.

I agree completely. When I was doing sprint triathalons, 90% of my training was on the bike or in the pool. I would mainly run sprints after biking just to prepare for the transitions. Every now and then I would go on a long run. Sprint tris are short though(14miles bike, half mile swim, 5k run). Not sure that would work on full triathlons or preparing for football endurance.

God, I'm lazy now... Gotta get back to doing something once I get through the Christmas holidays...

While I agree it's good cardio, the breathing is different. Most programs work more on conditioning, with HIIT, not so much distance running.

The conditioning you will see UT do is more than likely to be HIIT like tire flips, sled drags and pushes, swinging either a sand filled sledge or mace at a tire. Full body muscular endurance and conditioning is more effective than moderate distance repetitive running.

I checked out Fitz's offseason workout booklet over the summer. Seemed pretty standard. Squats, cleans, sprints, box jumps, etc. But there's a big difference between summer workouts that you do on your own vs. a team workout with your coaches present...using their equipment. I'll see if I can get some more details over the holidays.

Some players never learned to swim. They could get in pool and slash though
