Alabama pays there strength coach $600,000 per year and we just have interim strength coach $60,000. Swain had good discussion about it this morning and I think Butch has to make a change here in the off-season. Could be a reason for all of the injuries in that we may not be lifting as heavy as we should. Good reason why we are not physical on the line against anyone we play this year. What's everyone think?

There has been a multitude of different injuries, ankles, concussions, shoulders, knees. If you had one area where guys were getting injured I might agree, but across the board injuries it's probably not the training staff.

Did you also notice how early in the year that it seemed like every one of our opponents were dropping like flies due to cramps? We didn't have that problem. We've just had bad luck I think.

Tommy Moffitt might want to come home to Tennessee at the end of the season, maybe he can bring Jeff Grimes with him.

Most of those "cramps" were fake, especially Appy State and Florida.

Most of our injuries have been to the joints. S&C will not take care of that. If it were more muscle type injuries this might be a more appropriate topic.

The teams we have played this year are without a doubt, a reason we have the injuries we have. I'm always up for a good change, but need to prove the current coaching caused the problem.

How many can be attributed to the S&C program? We've just had a run of head injuries, rolled up ankles/knees and linemen getting hit at bad angles. Not sure there's much to do about those

Story of TN couple weeks ago was how we wear down teams late with better conditioning!

Now injury bug has bitten us hard, the problem is conditioning!?!?:blink:

Which is it?

I agree completely. This team isn't anywhere physical enough, and hasn't been the entire season. He also needs to evaluate fall camp. They might not be hitting enough.

Call me superstitious but I would make a change just to change the karma. He may or may not be involved with the injuries, but his karma is bad news.

I think some of the injuries are because our guys choose to "look good" and wear smaller shoulder pads and no knee or even thigh pads. You take a 230 lb running back head on with a small sliver of plastic being all that separates your shoulder from their knee and see if your shoulders hold up. Just a thought.

Dunno, but I did see during the A&M game, players hitting their players with only one shoulder pad (pad to pad mind you) and ending up with an injury, stinger, or whatever the like.

I saw that too. I think Forman and Mosley in back to back plays took on their RB and it was a direct hit. Remember the LBs of the late 90's and early 2000's? Al Wilson, Eric Westmoreland, etc... they wore huge pads! I understand the technology of pads have evolved and are better now but I couldn't imagine taking a helmet to my thigh or knee with no pad. I think that's how McGahee's knee was shredded in that championship game.

What does S&C have to do with someone rolling up the back of your leg, helmets to the knee/shoulder, or concussions? People are also blaming them on being out of position which I would again ask the same question.

For those saying we should hit more in practice....you obviously have short memories. Last year, we got injuries in practice leading up to the season and people were screaming for him to scale back. This proves, you can't win with certain segments of our fan base regardless of what you do.

While there may be a S&C issue you can't blame him for all.

JRM --has had shoulder issues since he was in high school
Sutton -- can't prevent broken bones
Kirkland -- can't prevent the way he got rolled up on
Sapp -- could possibly argue this one
KMac-- maybe

McDowell & Kendrick -- S&C can't prevent them from getting hit in head the way they did

All of OL -- can't prevent them from getting rolled up on or hit at bad angles

This is 2 or 3 years in a row for TEnn w/ a slew of Injuries.............and it equates to Strength & Conditioning...........bad S&C program = Injuries......if that were not the case, then everybody would have a slew of injuries........when you rest kids all summer and then expect them to go compete as the highest competitive level then you will get hurt via strains, torn muscles, or broken bones as your body is just not used to the direct competition all at once.............Just put it like this, if you don't lift weights for 6 months then you go try and per say bench 225 lbs w/ out warming up, then your probably going to tear some type of muscle...........
