Having some continuity in the S&C program for back to back years will be a big benefit for this team in 2012. These Sophmores and Juniors will have been on McKeefery's plan for a year going into this offseason and should make BIG strides.

The OL needs to get A LOT stonger and still keep their quickness, or even get quicker. Also we need to get our players built to where they can withstand an SEC schedule and not get so banged up. Our Secondary was the walking wounded by the end of the year and those guys need to bulk up so they can stay in games (PWagg comes to mind).

Remember if we keep Ron, it will be the first time we have had the same S&C coach for 2 full seasons since 06 and 07 I believe.

When you return 19 starters and over 40 solid contributors you can expect to see a big jump in players stength, speed, quickness, stamina, and agility. You will not see any freshman starting day one next year and not as many in the two deep either.

I think we are going to be a much better team next year we just really need to look at our run game philosphy and adjust our schemes accordingly (possibly make a coaching change at OL).

Go Vols! Is it September yet?

I completely agree. Next year will be better, and the fairweather fans that have mobbed this board will get a chance to see Dooley's potential with more experience and talent.

I think I'll be paying attention to the O&W game more this year than I have in year's past. I really want to see what strides this team makes over the off season.

Great points. I would also add that the offseason is gonna be critical in getting this team to come together, work hard, and take an "us against the world mentality" for next year. Its also important to get these early enrollees prepared to contribute. I think were expecting 16 or so.

Also with us bringing in 12-15 EE's we can see which one of the Freshman may have a chance to contribute sooner than the others.

I think guys like Santos and O'Brien will get into the rotation, but you won't see any of them except the 3 year JUCO guys (Jacobs, and Autry and Patterson if we get them) start.

I think Lane and Randolph will benefit the most from a year in the S&C program. I clearly remember those two taking a beating in the SEC games.

Do you really think you will be able to tell much from the spring game? IIRC, people were talking about Simms playing over Bray because of his performance, or lack there of.

I found it disturbing when Dools said in August that Tiny was stronger tan 98% of the team the day he walked on campus. Doesn't speak well of our prior S and C coach

Would be nice for our RBs to start benching 400 to 500 lbs like j Lewis and t Henry

Exactly...these last few posts are proof that this team wasn't ready to win this year.

Our S&C program is going to be key to make sure our team is ready to compete in 2012.

I agree - progression is gong to be key - you can see the natural talent in a lot of the players that are junior and under on this roster and there have been few total misses in recruiting - now it is time for the coaches to pull some greatness out of some of these players

we really don't have depth issues anymore - we just havent seen the game changing types of players develop yet - hopefully this is the year since many of these guys are going to be soph/juniors instead of fresh/sophs - could be a huge year if several players make strides in the offseason

Completely agree! Spring games are always dummbed down schematicly....typically its scripted and the coaches want to see certain offensive packages against certain defensive packages and vise versa. They also want to look at certain matchups with certain players and even players at different positions to see how they play in a game atmosphere.

The O&W is a terrible barometer to see how we are going to look before the season.

I think you are right, but there might be a freshman or 2 make the starting lineup. (rkunning back I hope)

I look forward to 2012 for many of the reasons stated above. If the loudmouths don't convince our recruits that the coaches will be fired this year and that players won't be supported by the fans, we will have a good class. We lose almost nobody except Malik and Austin. A healthy Bray, Hunter and Lathers should return. The added depth will provide better players to practice against and more competition. This along with an easier schedule should get us 3 or 4 more wins with an outside chance at the SECE.

He's just a freak. Its not a knock on the other guys or the program in general. FWIW he is also the meanest SOB on the team. We could really use a healthy dose of competition for jobs on this team and the OL is the only place we will be deep enough to see it this offseason. The rest of the team is coming.

Richardson needs to be starting next year if we want to see strides in the run game. Him next to Jackson can push people around. Chaney's philosophy of making seams and seals needs to go out the window next year. Its not the way to run the ball in the SEC. We have to power through guys to get to the second level and see an average closer to 5 yards than 3 yards per carry.

there is gonna be a big jump from the freshmen- arnett, tiny, dallas, randolph, maggit, jackson, coleman, and a.j... and from even bigger one from the soon to be juniors- hunter, rogers, bray, fulton, james, bullard, smith, lanier, couch, and moore to name a few... this team is talented... you saw the jump hunter and rogers made year 2 compared to year 1 i can see the same thing happening to a bunch of these guys
