Streaks against Al, Fl, GA

Reminds me of when every person b****ed about Fulmer's record vs Florida but in reality he beat them more than literally anyone else did

They were right to after 1996. Fulmer had more talent than Florida. 2002 was the WORSE and 2005 was bad as well. 1999 and 1997 are honorable mentions. Fulmer should have won all of them. That is why our rivals take home trophies like Saban with 6 at Alabama, Smart with 2 at Georgia, and Urban Meyer with 2 at Florida. Tennessee couldn't take advantage to make a consistent run. I can understand Danny Wuerffel era and losing to Florida then, they were amazing. Also Fulmer beat Florida in 2001 when they were the better team. So he bucked the trend.

I’d pump the brakes a bit on “should beat Alabama.”

It’s in Tuscaloosa and DeBoer, for all his faults, hasn’t lost at home yet since taking the job. We will not be favored. This is the first time in forever that I feel like going to Tuscaloosa isn’t an auto-loss, but it’ll still take an A game or near one to have a real shot at winning.
Agree. Miss State is going to be tough. The blue print is out they our D struggle last against bubble screens. Plus, Joey’s first game in the road - “white out” night game.

Yeah, I just can't feel good about this one. I wanted it more than playoffs. I grt tired of hearing about our programs ineptitude that has led to the 3 teams above having long win streaks and all-time winning records against Tennessee. Prior to the 2008-2020 BS, Tennessee had winning records all-time against Florida and Georgia.

This was our chance to end another embracing steak... now we will just hear about 9 straight.

It has been hard. Why did our program have to be such a garbage heap for so long?
Embracing steak.

Thanks. Crazy that our best record is against Alabama. Florida is the one that stands out. We should have beaten them in 2002, 2014, 2015, and 2023 IMO. 4 losses we left on the table.

People talk about it regularly, Tennessee just struggles against these teams.
Agree...the biggest difference in Florida is the mental block UT seems to have in Gainesville.

I've said it a lot in the off season - to me positive proof of program moving forward is we MUST win one or both of the games in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville, regardless of where Bama or.FL are ranked.

Sure does make us miss the 90’s.

Actually, glad we played Florida early back then. That way, we could take our L, move on and enjoy the season instead of waiting all season for it.

Every loss sucks, but I think this one hurt more because it was yet another loss to Georgia (and the fact that we had the win in our hands). We’ve broken the losing streaks against Alabama and Florida and will hopefully beat them again this year. We might even get another shot at Georgia this year. I know it’s a lot to hope for, but you never know.

I think a playoff appearance considerable more important for continuing to improve recruiting. None of our future recruits care about the streak or know who TN is prior to Heupel. Even the FL 'streak' was due to early days in the SEC, because FL has owned us like no other team. Even AL.

Heupel and White are program-building atop the landfill you refer to, and removed us from ICU. Everything is positive trending.

If we wind up 7-5, forget I posted this.

Add 2000 and 2017 for Florida. Also perhaps 2005 and 2006.
