Stories from games attended at Florida aka the Blue Urinal Cake Screen

I've been to about 40 games there and never once seen anything like what people claim happened (usually to their cousin's friend's neighbor). In fact I've seen nothing but friendly high fives and congratulations to teams that won and plenty of hospitality in the pregame parties.

Denial, maybe? Blinders?

I've been there once (like most other SEC away stadiums), and it was, by far, the worse I have been treated at any away game. I was a guest of, and seated by the Caldwell brothers Dad, who was a class act, btw. One of his sons (I think it was Andre who was playing in that game, not Reche), sustained a serious injury during the game and so Mr. Caldwell left during the game to be with him, so we were on our own after the game. The walk from the stadium to the car was the worse I've ever been treated at an away stadium, for any sport. Drunken guys running up, getting right in your face, spitting (only when they had 5+ other guys to back them up), pushing, cursing, throwing things. I've been to LSU, Alabama, Georgia, multiple times and my worse experience between those three was not half of the classlessness I experienced that night.

Was at there in '98, after our Natty. Have never seen such drunken behavior. Water hoses on us as we left, cars torn up, saw a man get his nose broken as we walked down University Blvd by drunk students b4 the game, etc. Worst of the worst.

I was there also and can confirm, this was by far the worst game experience ever. They were throwing piss filled balloons at everyone. I haven‘t gone back since.

Been four times, 1-3 (the win was 2003).

No hearsay stories. Personal accounts:
- spit on
- hit in the back intentionally with a football
- gum spit into our car
- flipped off and "FU" from coeds after wishing them a good game
- threatened to fight
- berated by drunken UF fan outside of a bar after our win, who was yelling some nonsense about "Free goat" and "Phil"
- nearly had to punch a jorts-wearing bastard blaring "Rocky Top" in jest after we lost, when he jumped in front of me in the dark asking for "5s" from Vol fans
- had car magnets stolen

I hate the dawg barking in Athens, but Gainesville is THE WORST.

I think this was in 2015. Me and two of my buddies from UTK traveled to Gainesville for a game. We were staying over in Nassau County at a friend’s families vacation home.

First, you can’t drive from the east side of Florida over to Gainesville without passing every small time cop sitting up in the trees or the median trying to catch you going 3 miles over the speed limit.

We managed to make it over to Gainesville without being tossed in a small town pokie for open container or driving-from-out-of-state.

We got moving on the strip there and had a good time. As usual, the fans were kind and welcoming. They knew they were going to win, and we pretty much suspected it as well.

But that game. Botch. The defense. I still carry the scars to this day. But little did I know, the night was about to get even crazier. My crew was not on a particularly good mood after the game, but we were determined to make the most of out of our trip. We stopped into one of the local bars and ran into some ladies there, who we began to chat up. It was impressive, because they were all really nice and nobody had to jump on a grenade. Things were looking up.

We’d been there probably about 2 hours by now. The six of us had moved off to our own table in the corner. We were all laughing about something and the BOOM. I’m out of my chair and seeing stars. It took me a minute to realize I had been sicker punched. It was on.

It seemed like me and my two buddies were brawling with sometimes two guys we didn’t know and sometimes four. I think other people were trying to get some licks in when they could. It was not their night, though. I’m not saying we didn’t all take a little damage (it hurt chewing for a solid week after that), but my friend being an ex Ranger and the other being just a mean farm boy from East Tennessee managed to get the upper hand. One or more of these guys were missing teeth by the time we were done.

By the time police arrived, security had us penned in, and they of course claimed we’d attacked a bunch of innocent Florida fans, mad about the embarrassment that happened on the gridiron hours before. But not so. We were focused on these three fine recent Gator graduates who were more than friendly and had put the game in the rear view mirror, at least for the night.

Two of the Florida guys, including the one who threw the sucker punch, were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Me and my two friends were photoed and booked. Three hots and a cot for us. It was too late to see a judge and post bail. We were there until at least Monday. At least I wasn’t there alone. I had two of my best friends from UTK with me, which made it a little easier.

We stuck it out and first thing Monday morning we bailed out. And someone was there waiting on us. It was one of the ladies we were chatting with on Saturday evening. It was the one who my friend that saved my bacon in the brawl was attached to. Turns out the guy who threw the sucker punch was her recent ex.

It took a while, and the legal process was slower than I would have preferred, but we managed to have the charges dropped. Despite the video from the bar that clearly showed an unprovoked sucker punch and testimony from the lonely Gator lady, the guy who started the fracas was never charged.

I didn’t think it would happen…it’s been six years now…and my friend has always sworn off an ole ball and chain. But he and this Gator lady are getting married this Saturday in a little town not too far from Gainesville. I’ll be there. I’m the Best Man. We’ve collectively decided to stay away from Gainesville this weekend. I may make it a lifelong commitment.

On a side note, I was there in 1985 when they played Tennessee with the astroturf as a kid.

My parents had season tickets and I was excited because it was the first game I got to go to where Florida wasn't playing a directional school.

If you weren't there when Florida had atroturf and games kicked off at 1PM, you don't know what hot is.

I was about to post that this was the only game I've ever been to Gainesville. Jr year @ UT and talked one of our poor buds into being DD, and rest of us drank beer the whole ride down from knoxville. Got in late and up early, with a twinge of a headache, and endured maybe the hottest game I've ever been to. To top it off, 4 of us were the only vol fans in the area we sat. All I really remember was the heat, TRob throwing a long TD pass and we lost...but had alot of fun.

I’ve been twice and not sure I’ll ever go back.

Second trip I parked in a fraternity house yard… after the piss bath in the 3rd quarter from the UF students we left and went back to our car to head out and we managed to take two knives and cut every wire that lead to that house. Oops 🙊

Couldn’t pay me to go to football games anymore. American football fans are scumbag trash. And it’s always the ones that never saw a down of football.

I was more concerned for my safety at LSU. there i asked a police officer if it was safe for me to cross the street and he told me it would never be safe for me. But at Florida in 1985 while driving to the stadium there was a sign painted on a sheet hanging across the street that said, and I quote " Johnny Majors wife s***s and swallows". I kinda thought that was pretty low.

Hah! That sh@t is inhumane. I can’t recall attending anything other than a night game at Doak until I was in middle school.

“Football weather” didn’t start until we played y’all in November.

I was there in 01 and 03…regarding the latter, I flew several of my friends down and we got tickets together. We sat up high, above most of the shenanigans. Both times were a blast (in that we beat em, and talked serious smack…lol). We were some of the last to leave the stadium (before we exited straight for the airport and my plane) and that helped, bc we didn’t tarry at the local watering hole. Also, because we won, only vols were left in the stadium, after about 15-20 minutes, and we all walked out together. Little did I know that 03 would be the last time we would win down there. I hope we break that record this weekend. GBO!

30 years ago this year was the first time I stepped into that degusting dumpster cesspool. Faxgate. Little known tidbit; Sells took his Kinko's lawsuit settlement money and opened a very successful recruiting firm in Nashville. The student section was behind visiting Alumni. They gave out half time passes to go to the bars and get juiced up for second half. Student threw whiskey bottle and hit coaches wife in head. Urin cups . etc . It was bad. Most happened just a few rows away from Dad and me. Attended. 91, 93, 95, 95, 01, 03 , 05, 07 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 Will not be making the trip this year.
2001 was one of my all time happiest in person attended events.

Faxgate
Before Spygate, there was Faxgate. Jack Sells, a former Tennessee assistant who was fired in 1991 for what Tennessee said was NCAA recruiting violations, was caught faxing part of Tennessee's playbook to then-Florida defensive coordinator Ron Zook the week of the game. Sells and Zook were friends from when Zook coached at Tennessee in the 1980s. Sells sent the diagrams from a Kinko's near campus, and one of the employees recognized him and alerted the Tennessee football office. Zook initially denied receiving anything, and both sides have downplayed it. In fact, some at Florida have claimed Tennessee also had a copy of its playbook. The Gators wound up winning 35-18, and Sells wound up suing Kinko's for violating his privacy and destroying his career. In that suit, he said he was harassed by Tennessee fans and was even punched in the mouth by a fan in a Chattanooga bar. After the suit was settled years later, Steve Spurrier joked, "I guess Jack's got him a brand-new house somewhere."

'97. UF fans had Peyton hanging from a noose in effigy.

I've mentioned this before but I was in the Swamp for the 2001 game. Gator fans were hella angry afterwards and I had a hot dog thrown at me as I was leaving. It looked like a very tasty dog but I was offended that it had ketchup instead of mustard.

I've been a CFB fan since I was a kid and have attended games all over the SEC and elsewhere. I've taken friends who were fans of other schools and gone with fans of other schools to their venues. I was also a student and I've never seen anything close to the urban legends that I've heard through the years. Never seen a piss balloon. Never seen a fan spit on. Never seen a fight. The closest thing I've seen to trouble was in 1989 at a UGA/UT game in Knoxville. It was a close game that UT won 17-14. After the game my wife and I and another couple were walking to a bar behind an elderly UGA couple and some Tennessee frat boys started barking at them. Me and the guy from the other couple "politely" shooed them away and that was that. I've tail gaited with fans from other schools and seen some good-natured ribbing, but never anything serious, especially from alum of other schools. I've seen the occasional drunken bum in Jacksonville who made threats after a game that UGA won saying "don't be on Duvall Street after dark" etc., but nothing bad.

I think a lot of the stories that fans make up about other fans are just that, made up.
