Stopping Garcia?

Lattimore will be back from what I am hearing down here (columbia) on the radio. THey dont even think there's a chance of him not playing. So we have to stop the run, like we did in the first half and make Garcia throw. They just have several good weapons this year. A decent Senior QB, a great RB and a great WR. Their DBs are teriible like ours and they are about as bad as us on stopping in critical situations, see KY game. We just have to throw them some crazy looks on D, show blitz a lot, I really liked what our D was doing against Bama, They just got outplayed in the second half. They were definitely confusing the coverage looks for a bit. But our DBs are hurting more than any other thing on our team right now.

Well, and Lincoln, who looks about as hurt as a 10 year old girl who scraped her knee. He needs to come back, Palardys soccer FG tries scare me. the one he hit, came it at a crazy angle, I thought it was gonna shoot to one side on a fade towards the end.

Good post. Thanks for the input. I too live down here in SC and this game is big for me. I know they have more tallent on their roster, but they are the Game Cocks, thus, TN has a chance.

I agree TN needs to stack the box to stop the run, bring heat to the QB, move the ball on O, and hope for turnovers.

Go VOLS.

Garcia is a Junior

It seems to me that Garcia is prone to doing a good job of stopping himself. Thats about our only chance of stopping the USC offense, a meltdown at the QB position.

Exactly.

I was shocked he held it together against Bama

I agree with you, I used to not even care about this game. It was whatever... And my opinion has not changed bc the Cocks are playing better this year, but because I have been based down here for the past four years per my military orders and I cant leave... Or trust me, I would.

Like I was saying though, i used to not care, now this game is as important to me as Fla or bama. Just because I have to hear the crap the cockynation spews everyday.

Our record against them is 27-4-1, I think or close to that, and they act like they beat us every year...

All Ive heard for the past month is "It's hard to win Denny Bryce, or whatever the hell their broke down stadium is called.... Worst Stadium in the SEC, I thought the concrete I was sitting on was gonna fall through at one part bc us UT fans were making so much noise in the top right of the stadium and the place sounded like a building bending in an earthquake.

These guys were just another Vandy or Miss St., and now all of the sudden they think they are the best team in the SEC and have been for 5 years thanks to Spurrier.

I cant wait til Saturday, I really hope we just trash them on Saturday with Bray at the helm.

Gosh I hate those Cocks, guess that's why I could have never been gay... lol Sorry mods, delete that if you need to....

GO VOLS!

IMO, if lattimore is still out, that will force USC to be one diminutional (see the ky game) and if we can get pressure on Garcia and get after his a$$ forceing him to make bad decisions with the football causing turn overs we can give ourselves a chance!!

Another key is our O has got to stay on the field long enough to score & give our D a rest to stay fresh and keep the chickens offense off the field.

You realize their 3rd running back went over 150 yards last weekend right?

Another great post Jack Tate. Couldn't have said it better. These Cocks think they are something special, but they have never won anything close to a championship in their football history. USCJr has a mere 4 wins all time v. TN and now they think they "own" the vols.

The talk here from the Cocks on the radio is getting the "east championship" nailed down by UGA beating UF. They may be scoreboard watching instead of focusing on the TN Vols.

You may be right. The Gamecocks may be distracted by having a chance this late in the season to still win the SEC East. They are like a 30 year old virgin out on a date, all they are thinking about is how close they are to gettting a kiss at the end of the night instead of really looking at what is happening now. Tennessee is what they should be focused on, not win-loss ratios of other schools.

The key in this game will be to weather the storm when South Carolina jumps out to an early two touchdown lead. At some point in the game (likely at halftime) the Gamecocks are gonna think the game is already over and start playing conservative and predictable on offense. They will also ease up on defense. This is what they did against Kentucky, Auburn and earlier in the season against Georgia...

So even if the Vols get down early, the guys need to just hang in there...they will have opportunities throughout the second half

You know that Ashlon Jeffery is absolutely salivating after watching what Jones did to us this weekend...He will probably set a school record easily...How can we stop A.J.?

play zone and teach the secondary to wait until Garcia locks eyes on Alshon...

putting pressure on garcia would probably be the smartest thing to do, although he has been pretty good all year no matter what has been thrown at him (see NCAA D1 passer ratings a few posts above). I will be very suprised if Lattimore doesn't go for about 150. In the end, I just dont think the vols have enough offense to hang in there . . . if I were the coach I would just hand it off to Poole every down, the guy is a player. Anyway, hope the vol fans making the trip have a good time. my prediction would be about 34-14 in favor of the gamecocks but I guess we will see here in a few days

Sorry guys...no ill will but I think this one is SC 32-7
you've got a decent Rb in Poole but Alshon, Tori, Ace Sanders, Garcia and Mr. Lattimore are just too much at one time.

and for those of you "knocking" Garcia, stats don't lie...
Stephen Garcia - 170.23 passer rating, 72.09%, ranks 5th in the nation (Above Mallet, Luck and Pryor)
12 TD, 6 INT, okay yes he has had 3 errant WTFs, but 1 was the fault of an OL vs Furman, 2 were the fault of WR dropping it.

I hear people doggin Garcia all the time, he's made a few mistakes but I seriously can't put the mistakes solely on Garcia's shoulders.
imho if you want UT to have a chance? Your D Coordinator better bring the heat and the pain every down with blitzes otherwise its gonna be a long drive back to Tennessee.

Keep in mind the last 2 years we've spotted UT 7-21 points in the first qtr because of RB fumbles and bad snaps deep in our own territory.
