Stop your whining

I don't remember there being a gun to Cutcliffe's head making him accept the job.

Very true. He simply saw his chance and took it. More than tripled his salary while stepping into a situation where there is nowhere to go but up.

At 3-1 (would be 4-0 except for a holding penalty that nullified a winning TD against Northwestern), he's getting a lot of adoration in Durham right now. I know it's Duke we're talking about, but some might say it's better to be adored at 1.5 mil a year (and in complete charge of the program) than toiling away for less than half-a-mil on Cap'n Phil's slowly-sinking ship.

He seems very happy to be at Duke.

I have lived all over this great union and have never heard so many stupid comments in my life like I hear and see coming from Knoxville! Example 1 Calling for Fulmers head? Penn State was screaming for Paterno to be run out of town, now look at them. I am a Christian and for all of my fellow Christians you know that things work in seasons! I bet if yall stopped booing and calling John and Jimmy and complaining more recruits would be open to the vols! Do yall really believe these kids aren't on the internet reading and listening to what comes out of Knoxville? Yeah i cringe everytime Crompton throws a pass, and question why we dont line up and play smash mouth football! But in todays game there is to much parady to play one sided! Example 2 last year with Eric Ainge we threw the ball to much! But look at Duke they are 3-1 under coach Cut and yall wanted to run him out of town! DUKE! for goodness sakes!

Under one thing if Tennessee had just a decent QB this year things would be totally different! But because we dont have the person in that position the whole offense suffers. The blame game doesnt work and i know Crompton is trying his best but unfortuantely his best is not good enough for D-1 college football or at least the SEC! This year will be a down year but be positive for once! I mean is it that bad living in a single wide that you must take it out on everyone?

Burn baby burn

That's what the DJ was playing during the '67 riots in LA, then someone told the Fish, you got to come over and get this stopped, he did and told the guy, hey people are dying out there, play something cool and copasetic and he did!

It was:

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day

With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
I
n colors on the snowy linen land
Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain

Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand
Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
For they could not love you
But still your love was true

And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you, Vincent

This world was never meant
For one as beautiful as you
Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls (hall passes or nay)

Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met

The ragged men in ragged clothes
A silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
Now I think I know what you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will...

Or maybe it was something else,
that was a long time ago,
who remembers everything
I know what I remember

and can tell, before the morning bell
and how can you know as well
ere you listen for a moment
if you can muster the silence

who cares and what does it matter
no one it seems, up the next batter
strike or ball, too close to call
should we do better or repeat it all?

gs, man... wow.

In '67 two guys by the name of Buddy "machine gun" Kelly and Furry Lewis were living in Watts, Buddy was Irish and white and Furry was one of the more famous of the old blues singers. For two weeks or so Furry wouldn't let Buddy go out for groceries because it wasn't cool to be white and be in Watts at that time and that fact is more poignant when one understands that Furry had an artificial leg one the one hand, he had lost it in a train accident.

Sort of like:

Frisco's a mile long away
You can't afford to fly
It might as well be the moon,
Lord, when you're as broke as I.

Here I sit with my head in my hands
Watching the trains roll by
Lord, the Helping Hand Mission man warned me
That the nights here got cold.

When you're cold there's nothing as welcome as sunshine
When you're dry there's nothing as welcome as rain
When you're alone there's nothing as slow as passin' time
When you're afoot Lord there's nothing as fast as a train.

Old Frisco's a mighty rich city
Now that ain't no lie
Well, they have some buildings
That reach nearly a mile in the sky.

Everyone's so busy they can't tell me the reason why
Here's a world full of people so damn many people alone
When you're alone life just don't seem worth living
While you're alive gotta learn to live with the pain.

You've been grown for so long
There's no one left who'll forgive
You find yourself searching your mind
For the links to the chain.

When you're cold there's nothing as welcome as sunshine
When you're dry there's nothing as welcome as rain
When you're alone there's nothing as slow as passin' time
When you're afoot Lord there's nothing as fast as a train...

(That's Mickey Newberry at his best, he's gone now but I'm still friends with his best friend, maybe the music died, maybe it's just playing 'possum, long live the music, without it I am am dead and glad I'm dead but it if it comes alive again, then count me among those who celebrate the resurrection, love Jesus or die the death)

Amen.

You mean like this:

Love is but a song to sing
Feels the way we'll die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may know not why

Oh! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that let us heal
Returns for us at last
We are but in the morning sunlight
Fading in the grass

Oh! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Yes! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
