Stop Blaming COVID

So an equal number of players from every team had to quarantine? Nope... not buying your drivel. We’re better than 2-5 with a full offseason, IMO.

With Jarrett Gaurantano at QB Okay lol.

What you have is similar to battered wife syndrome. No matter how bad the husband hits the woman. It's always someone else's fault an not the husband. You think Pruitt was dealt a bad hand because of Covid-19??
Tell that to Ohio State, that might get left out the playoff as undefeated but hasn't had the chance to play enough games!

You've seen JG literally throw Kentucky more points then his own team could score this season...at home.
And somehow a full year of prep would change that? Are you an idiot???

Guess what? JG had 3 seasons before this one with "full off-seasons"!

You're just full of nonsense dude...

Your arguments make no sense at all. I don’t even care enough to address all that. Good night.

What are your expectations if this season doesn’t question your opinion of Pruitt?

Im really disappointed with our season, but I basically decided this season doesn’t count before it even started.

I don’t believe we have bad coaches. I’m just not ready to throw in the towel. I also believe Pruitt can get better at his job.

What have you seen from him that makes you believe he can get better as a head coach?

not sure I follow you... in general, I think people can improve at things. Do you not?

Do I believe that someone can become better simply because time passes? No, I do not. You either possess the qualities to be a great leader or you do not. Can you become more organized or learn to delegate? Yes, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to great coaching. You first have to possess the ability to inspire greatness and the talent to improve a player’s skills to become better. Pruitt has shown neither of those skills

This season does count significantly as far as recruiting and if our coaching staff survives or if we have to start another program rebuild.

I’ve read numerous posts around the FB forum, how COVID is the main reason why we’re struggling this year.

Why not just admit Pruitt and his staff have failed developing a serviceable QB to replace JG?

Why does our defense continue to struggle with defending the slant pass?

Sorry but getting stomped by Kentucky and Arkansas in year 3 is NOT because of COVID.

Every team has been dealing with this pandemic, not just us.

This excuse has to stop.
It is ashame that this season is a bust for the players. I am glad seniors can come back if they want too though. The way we handled this season has been aweful. I feel with us losing as bad as we have and the season a wash is that Pruitt dropped the ball on the younger players. We should have been trotting Bailey out in the third fourth qtrs to get him experience. Pruitt should be thinking what if JG doesn't come back (hopefully not and I wish him luck as a Vol) and this Covid causes another stoppage in spring and fall camps them there you are with qbs who are upperclassmen with no growth and a redshirt freshman with no experience but just what he got in this year's practice. He has got to think ahead.

We have gotten worse as the season progressed. Our two wins were in the closest weeks to all of these problems and now we are going to be fortunate to beat Vandy. I just don't see how it adds up.
This x 100. I could understand a slow start but we did the opposite. We started strong and have gotten worse as the season progressed. Covid is not responsible for that.

Pruitt is obviously lacking much as a head coach and that has absolutely nothing to do with covid. So, using covid as an excuse to justify his failures and/or retain him is ridiculous.

You had a returning head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator.

You had 16 returning starters.

Compare that to an Arkansas with a new everything and hadn’t won a conference game since 2017.

I’m not saying COVID did not cause problems, but Tennessee was actually in a better position to potentially handle it than anyone else.

Do you think we started strong, though? I feel like we started lucky that JG had no turnovers, SC sucks, and Missouri hadn't figured out their offense yet. First half of UGA looked good on paper, but not so good to the naked eye.

Secondly, I agree that we haven't shown enough improvement over the season... that part is pretty frustrating, though I do believe certain position groups have shown some small improvement.

Lastly, I don't think it's fair to lay down axiomatic statements about how good our team should be after missing an entire off-season. It's never happened before... this is completely unprecedented.

Look, all of this is very subjective, on both sides. But the points I'm trying to make in this thread seem far from "ridiculous" to me.

Your denial that CLOVID is problem is simply untrue. COVID has adversely affected everything in this Nation and It has Not been selective in its target. We, as humans, have denied that this virus would and has caused countless problems in every aspect of the World's societies. It has mostly affected those who deny the devastating consequences of this disease. I agree that its affects differ among individuals, but the destruction this virus has caused is undeniable.
As to our football team and the basketball teams, it has caused unmeasurable problems, especially when a large number of our better athletes are very young players who most need practice and instruction. It is folly to deny these facts . I agree that there is some blame which can be placed on the coaching staffs and but COVID is the major problem which all sports are facing which have to been faced in the last 100 years. Look at what has happened in MLB, NFL, NBA, And all professional sports. Look at hat it has done to our economy. Look at hat it has done to our educational systemsLook at the over 270,000 premature deaths from the virus. Surely you are smart enough to realize we are in the middle of a major Pandemic.

You have your opinion and I have mine. For the most part, we disagree. As in so many of these threads, It's futile to continually beat our proverbial dead horses by arguing issues that, for the most part, can't be proven one way or the other.

In the case of VolNation vs Pruitt, time will tell. One thing that's not really arguable is Tennessee, as of late, has a terrible track record of decision making in the AD. So unfortunately, IMO, he will get at least another year.

Not having a competent QB has killed the Vols..... Covid screwing spring practice and fall camp screwed Bailey.... big time.
If TN had a productive QB they’d have beaten KY, Arky and Auburn.....
Pruitt screwed Bailey. He decided after Bailey had 10 snaps he wasn’t worth the time to develop this year for several weeks during Fall
Camp. It’s all on Pruitt.

I know its probably just me. I just wondered if anyone else is having problems getting into the covid19 era of football. I am use to enjoying watching football in general college and NFL. For what ever reason I can't even watch a game the whole way through any more. Maybe it's just the apathy of the Vols being bad this year.
