Stop all the arguing; just answer two questions

you must have completely missed my point. with possible sanctions coming what good coach will come? everyone talks about how great those facilities are, but a coach wont come just for facilities. again look at our fball coaching searches

sorry if I missed my point but you seem to be making different ones

We have to get a new coach anyway so starting the search now gives us a leg up and time to get it done right. You compared it to the search for a football coach when the situations are much different. However if we wait until the sanctions come down at the end of the summer then we are way behind.

NO. Pearls a proven winner. He's built this program we need to stick with him. Next year may be rough but like one of the first posts says, you know with bruce we'll bounce back.

Yes.

what situations are different? i think i rather take over a less talented team instead of taking over a program with possible sanctions looming

then you make them say no now and continue the search with more time. Going to those guys a month or 2 before the season starts pretty much assures they will say no

i agree with what you said, but at the same time, i'm not callin for pearls head either. sorry for enjoying going to the tourney on a yearly basis

I would like to know truthfully how everyone here would answer this question:
If you lied to your boss at work and he found out about it and then 4 days later, you lied again - what would happen? Would you still have your job, would your boss fire you? Forget Pearl, forget the NCAA. This is you, your boss and the company you work for. What would happen? At my job, I would be fired.

I enjoyed it with Green too but that doesn't mean he should still be coach

but you said you were enjoying going to the tourney on a yearly basis. Is that for Bruce only?

If you are the President of the United States, and you lie before Congress about receiving oral sex in the oval office, should you keep your job?

Just a point to illustrate that there are different rules for some people. I think Bruce has been very contrite, and should be forgiven.

Oh, and to answer the OP.. I would fire Hamilton yesterday and keep Bruce.

you want to make this such a big deal, when its really nothing. fyi every coach at every level breaks the rules.

I don't care. If I'm a major league baseball player and 18 guys in the clubhouse are shooting steroids, I'm not gonna do it because I know there are rules against that and if I get caught there will be punishment. Same situation with Pearl.

1. Keep Bruce! Who can we find out there as good?
2. Hmmm? Yes. Got to be someone out there better. How about an ex UT player or former coach.

It's a double-edge sword. Bruce has brought in the most talent and had the best run in UT men's history. But on the other hand, I don't see us ever breaking through all the way with him.

While we have had the talent to make it to the Final Four we always end up beating ourselves in the end. Blew the 18-20 point lead vs. OSU a few years ago and couldn't finish. Blew the MSU elite game last year with missed FT's and not being able to finish. And this year alone have lost more than a handful of games that came down to the wire.

With the same talent and more discipline we could've been to a Final Four or two by now. The hope is if we replace Pearl we'll get someone to get us over the hump. But odds are probably against that. More likely the next guy won't have the same success at recruiting and we take a step back or more.

No to Pearl being fired? I would love to work for you, then. I could get away with anything

Well, most jobs for the equivalent of what Pearl did follows in order....verbal warning, written warning and then a final written warning before being fired but thats beside the point.

B Pearl admitted his wrong doing and is blaming noone but himself. He has voluntarily given up a yrs pay, allowed his contract to be torn up which means he could be fired without compensation, been taking off the road for a yr and suspended for 8 games in an attempt to make amends and stay as coach of this team.

Pearl supports all of our other tenn teams and helps out every time another coach asks for anything. He is a great fund raiser and helps in many charitable causes. He has been faithful to Tenn and not left for another job.

If I was him, I would have taken the buyout and taken a yr or two off and then coached another team or went to the NBA as an assistant for a yr or two before coaching in college again.

I fully support coach pearl and wish him nothing but the best in whichever direction life takes him.

I have enjoyed Pearl as a coach, but every year we lose in the tournament for seemingly the same reasons.. ball countrol, discipline, etc. I say we find a coach with the recruiting he provides, but who is also more disciplined. Maybe a CDD waiting in the wings!! AND.. Hamilton is a clown.. I don't like him being the face of UT athletics.

1) Fire Bruce, I don't really care one way or the other anymore.

2) Yes Yes Yes!!! But not only no but heck no on the former player or coach!!!!!! We need to break the UT good 'ol boy culture.

any one who wants to keep pearl should just go back and take a look at this calender year. its clear that his time has come.

1) The bump rule might be a joke. Not reporting the violation and having your employer find out about it from the NCAA is not.

2) I don’t see lying to the NCAA on your list. Which happens to be the big deal.

3) Who do you have coaching during his 1 or 2 year suspension?

This + 1 on Pearl.

Hamilton should go or stay based on many factors, however, a requirement would be to successfully hire a proven winner as Pearl's replacment for him to stay.
