Bob Stoops reportedly said on Monday at the Touchdown Club of Atlanta that he will never coach college football again.

That’s bad news for SEC (cough, LSU, cough cough, Tennessee) fans who believe their schools may soon be getting ready to make a head coaching change.

Stoops was in Atlanta for a luncheon, according to the Touchdown Club’s website.

“Big Game Bob” just has no interest in coaching college ball again, CBS Sports Radio host John Kincade said:

He was the head coach at a program in its apex, and beginning his downturn. Realizing his demise, he went ahead and took himself out before it could get ugly.

Why in the hell would he leave a program that he (re)built at its height to come pick up the pieces at Tennessee? If he was tired of coaching at Oklahoma, then he doesn't have the energy or gumption to fix the mess here.

It never made sense from the get-go.

He isn’t coaching again. Heard a similar interview with him on XM radio after he left OK. Says he’s always wanted to retire younger and be a grandparent and enjoy life. He’s never been in this for the long haul. Spurrier even confirmed that has always been his plan. I really didn’t see the coaching big even creepy NG up with him again. He wants quite, simple, family time now.

He is done guys. This talk of Stoops silly.

Never expected this either. But, Stoops took OU to the top from a mess worse than we have. We'll, this season ain't over and maybe the mess is worse than I thought. I was quite impressed w what Stoops did when he left UF.

That's my point though. He already built his whole career taking a program from wreckage back to glory. It's time consuming, takes a lot of effort. He was gassed just running the program he built in cruise control. Where's he gonna get the fuel to do it all over again?

Agreed on the amazing job that he did, several times over. And I applaud his ability to view his position from outside himself and recognize the fork in the road. Did a lot for his program. He basically did what Spurrier thought he was doing, but 10x better.

11-2 last year and 4-0 so far this year.....that's 15-2 the last 17 games....that's the beginning of his downturn??? Do wut?

Guy took himself out because he didn't have the energy and heart he believed to be necessary to run an elite program at an elite level.

Just a distraction. Behind the scenes the 5 most powerful boosters are forming Boostertron and will bring in Stoops or Gruden, whoever is more expensive.

Even if he says it in an interview, the AD should still call his agent just to be safe, never know what will happen if you don't ask

This is common knowledge. I don't understand why people think he's looking for another job. He quit and had a top 10 team this year at Oklahoma. He's done

No decent coach is going to come here. Stoops doesn't want to coach again because of the fickle, spoiled fan bases. If you don't win national championships every year then you "can't win the big one". Vol fans are no different. Fulmer was one of the most successful coaches in Tennessee history and the fan base and booster ran him out. That is why no one decent would take the job before. That is why Cutcliffe or Chavez won't come back here.

Well that's tough s***! This is Tennessee! Us fans, we want titles! And not division titles either. SEC and CFP titles. Enough zeroes to the checks and we should have plenty of quality coaches to choose from, but our loser boosters need to put their money where their mouths are.

If the AD wants to spend money and get his money's worth, than hire DJ Durkin and his offensive man Walt Bell away from Md. The man can coach and he can recruit.
