Stokes MAY not be gone.

Tyler Smith entered the draft to see where his stock would play out, and subsequently pulled out. Maybe Jarnell is testing the waters the same way, unless the rules have changed and don't permit this any longer.. In which case, he's gone.

He stays:

He can work on his mid range jump shot and he can take advantage of a weaker draft class next year and be drafted higher.

He leaves:

Why stay in college and risk an injury? This season he got some media exposure through the team going to the Sweet 16. Next season, we could be a 15 win team and get no media exposure. He would be forgotten. Opposing teams would double team him and his average in assists, rebounds, and points would go down.

In answer to the UConn reference - we have no Napier that rebounds as well as he shoots, directs the O, and plays great D. We also do not have an accomplished HC that can redesign an offense around what he does have, or at least there has been no evidence that he can in his first 6 seasons as a HC. Maybe he learns how to do that in the off season.

There will be a huge drop off inside, whose presence has saved them for several years with their rebounding. I like Richardson, Thompson, Moore and Reese. Now find 4 more that can play at that level, one of which is a PG and another of which is a big that can actually play, and there will be a competitive team on the floor. This next team will have to be over-achievers as compared to being late blooming under-achievers of this past season.

Stokes isn't going to do much in the nba. I wish him all success, but it will be difficult for him. He'll be a sub somewhere, play a few minutes, maybe get a few rebounds; can't see much more than that.

Whether he stays in school another year or not, he will not add 3 inches in height nor will he add 6-8 inches on his leaping ability....

Okay cool... But he's getting drafted on his ability to rebound mainly.

This method is not always effective.

I think you missed his point. Another year in school was not going to change him physically or athletically. Hanging around another year would benefit him only on the hope of a shallower draft class in 2015. It won't change who he is as a player.

If he thinks he can get a million dollar contract sitting on the bench for an NBA team or for any team I can't blame him for taking it. Tennessee doesn't pay anywhere near that much time to move on if he sees dollars in his future.

If CCM manages to get in again next year and win a game in it, the fans' confidence will really go up.

I would like to see the on-court success translate into improved recruiting though.

Wouldn't the improved recruiting come first?

About 11 months or so

As a UT homer, I wouldn't say that its out of the picture. I will say that Coach Martin and his staff have their work cut out for them. Next season, all the obvious signs are pointing towards a mediocre season. Several players will have to make some hefty strides for them to be in the hunt of a post season birth next year IMO. And a lot of that will be on this coaching staff's ability to help players grow and develop.
