Stokes has until?

Can't remember, do they work out for teams prior to the draft? That would be his best chance to increase his stock.

They changed the whole thing a year or two ago, you used to be able to do some workouts but I don't think you can anymore. You can seek advise from a NBA committee that will review game tape iirc, and then they give you an evaluation and projection.

VQ and 247 guys seem to say it is his preference and dream to go to the NBA but he know that this draft is stacked and that if his projection stays in the mid 2nd round he likely will come back to be a 1st rounder next year. If he gets any indication he could slide into the first round I think he will give it a shot...that just doesn't seem to be happening right now.

I see no way he's told 1st round this year

Exactly, big difference between <12 month fling and being with someone 3+ years who you're thinking about spending the rest of your life with.

Once again, I'm not saying it's the deciding factor, but I think it's foolish to say it's not a factor at all.

If its that serious I doubt shed be staying at UT if he goes pro.

As of now on NBADraft.net there are 9 PF/C type players projected in the first round this year, next year's mock draft already has 15 PF/C types in the first round.

It has Stokes at 38 right now, I'm not sure his stock will ever be higher.

Draft express has him at 51

Once again, I'm not saying it's high on his list as I've also said it's not likely a deciding factor, but IMO it's something that weighs into his decision.

Hell 5* WR Preston Williams has let it be known he's gonna attend the college that can get his girlfriend a scholarship too lol.

Ok...

jArnell cannot ask for advice again this year as you can only ask once and he did last year. also has to let UT know by the 15th

I also didn't know you could only ask for advice once. That's interesting. That needs to be changed. IMO

The only one that can be harmed by not allowing multiple evaluations is the player and the players fam.

Hadn't seen this posted anywhere. A good read if you want to really understand what Stokes is going through and just how out of touch the NCAA is with the needs of it's "student-athletes."

DraftExpress: Testing the NBA Draft Waters in 2014

Exactly, as long as Jarnell keeps his mouth shut he has until April 27th. If he announced he was leaving and hadn't hired an agent, he would have to withdraw by the 15th. This is an idiotic rule put in place by the NCAA solely for their benefit.

The whole system is set up for the benefit of the NCAA and not the player, it's BS.

I'm not sure why anybody declares before April 27th unless they just want to hire an agent and get an advance. But I'm not a 19 year old staring down a million dollar decision either, so what do I know.

Yea there's really no benefit to announcing this early, but a lot of players don't get enough info on it IMO. The only benefit is to the school, and that's not who this decision should be made to benefit.

Which is weird because most coaches are against this rule too. No one likes it but the suits that make up the NCAA. The simplest solution would be a camp at the end of every season where NBA scouts could evaluate any kid that wants to declare every season. They could do a pre-camp eval like now and then invite the top 40 or so underclassmen. NCAA pays for it out of there multi-million dollar budget. Head coaches and parents could come with the players but no agents or handlers. Then give a draft projection, give the kids 2 weeks to decide and get advice.

I am also open to the idea of letting a potentially draft worthy underclassmen the ability to talk to an agent or a group of interested agents at this eval under the watchful eye of an NCAA so he could get some real "money" advice before making his decision.

Doesn't seem that complicated to me but I'm not trying to squeeze millions out of college kids.

You're correct about the advice thing, forgot he asked for an evaluation last year.

You're wrong about the 15th though.

Ben_Fred: Wed 06:56pm I botched previous Jarnell Stokes NBA deadline tweet. If he's returning, he has to let UT know by end of April 15. This from UT compliance.

I agree 100%, you can't really blame the kids who have talked to agents in the past, the whole setup is the least beneficial way possible for the athletes. I like your idea of basically a couple weeks camp where scouts and GMs can come and watch, after that they give the players evaluations and maybe someone comes in and breaks down for the players what real money they are looking at given their draft stock.

I hate the current design.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the rule he botched this one too. Also all it takes is a quick google search, he announced last year on April 27th, seems like that would be the same this year.

He said it's from UT Compliance. Hopefully they have a clear understanding of the rule. Time will tell I suppose.

He very well could've misunderstood what they were saying, or they could've been speaking on the assumption he declares without hiring an agent.

Like I said, Jarnell stayed quiet and announced on April 27th last year, I see nothing that has changed to alter that date.
