VT's OC just flat handed it to Monte tonight. Not sure I've seen that before other than possibly the Ole Miss game. It's like he knew exactly what play to call at the right time. Those slants over the middle were seemingly called right at the perfect time each and every time. Also, looked to me like Berry was already thinking NFL before this game. That was one of the worst games of his entire career.

Did you watch the game? Our corners were absolutely pathetic. We blitz and theylet a guy inside them? All freaking night? McCoy. Clearly had issues with stopping and starting. They murdered the weakside of our D and ran away from Berry all night. That's how you kill a team using a safety to cover for terrible run D.

Art Evans played the entire night chasing the spot he should have already been in. Eric Berry is screaming to his own team mates because there is a receiver with no one within 20 yards. We're making blatant facemasks on otherwise great stops to convert a fourth and 7 or so into a first and goal. Monte set them up to make the plays but there was little execution for most of the game. They're working to get better talent and that's what it is gonna take. In the words of Butthead: "You can't polish a turd."

Our corners are undersized and don't play very physical or smart at times. We need a upgrade there. We need faster linebackers yesterday.

it's obvious that you don't know the difference between scheme and talent/execution.

with the lack of talent and depth on d, cmk had little chpice but to put the corners on an island. the fact they're not very good compounds a tricky situation.

Don't blame it on Monte. He's not the guy going out on the field, suiting up, and playing for sixty minutes.

The defense failed to execute for all but a couple drives in the game. It really seemed like maybe two defensive players showed up to play last night. They just weren't all there.

Has anyone stopped to think that Monte has healthier knees than one of his starting tackles. His back is also in better shape that one of his defensive ends....

Until Kiffin figure out how to stop any sort of option type offense he'll be seeing a lot more of it.....

Not saying I disagree with you govols, but just to play devils advocate here, isn't that what we used to say in defense of Fulmer? "He can't make the plays for them!!" That's what I used to hear from the Fulmer defenders on this board. Just saying.

Yeah Monte sure missed alot of tackles tonight. When he gets better players you will see then. Some of these guys are good but its what Fulmer left that went 5-7 last year

I like some strides the coaching staff accomplished this year and finishing 2nd SEC East was testament to that. However, the talk being Monte having 1 month to prepare etc etc and the way our D was manhandled a la Ole Miss is letting doubt creep into my mind as to whether this is going to work.

He asked his QB to turn around and hand the ball off almost the entire second half. That is not masterful game planning, it is understanding the obvious. We were a depleted defense and they overpowered us. Not much a DC can do about that.

Its called Execution. We just were outplayed. Simple. Wasn't the first UT loss and won't be the last. Everyone is forgetting all the talent we lost on Defense to injury. RM played hurt, and Lathers was 3rd string at the start of the season. He's a starter and that speaks volumes. Now for the Corners, we couldn't throw them all in a bag, shake it up, and get 1 good one out.

Not to mention we were also a depleted offensive line that got overpowered. Hard to win big games when you lack the personnel.

The Op is pushing his grassroots movement....

He'll eventually pass out from a lack of oxygen and we'll just keep moving.

Don't try to help him up..... just keep moving.

yes it would be Monte, but if you watched the game...and follow the Vols you would know that they are depleted on D....and playing with LIMITED talent...you can't out run a corvette with an impala no matter how you drive it....look at the LB situation...the DT situation....

Our plan on Defense sucked last night. That would be Monte, correct??

We played them good enough to win for about 3 quarters. After that, the inability to score really hurt us. Also, VT pounded the rock until we were simply worn out. When you're starting third-stringers there's not a lot of relievers left.

Mr.Moore's drop was the turning point.
