I think I've already responded to all the Manning fans. However, I do have a question. Does his win Sunday somehow change his 0-4 record against Florida? I think not. So, keep kissing his a$$. I will keep worrying about UT.

he played on a TEAM with the Colts. doesn't change the fact that as a Vol he won one measly SEC Championship and no victories against Florida, no national titles while on a TEAM at UT. His Super Bowl did nothing to the records of the UT football this year. Ya'll act as if he is the second coming himself. big deal. He's not the only Vol to get a Super Bowl ring, he won't be the last.

Yes, a team that won fewer SEC titles than Andy Kelly. Therefore, I could care less about him winning a Super Bowl. His resume at UT is one worshipped by stat whores. I prefer to venerate guys who beat our major rivals and put considerable hardware in the trophy case. QBs are measured by Ws and Ls. That is why Joe Montana is held in much higher esteem than Dan Marino or Dan Fouts.

so SEC titles are now measly? jeez. i'd take a measly SEC title right now........

and y'all act as if it's some kind of sin to be happy a guy that played at TN that has been as criricisized as any one player ever has about not being able to win the big one, won the ultimate game.

it's just not this big of a deal. most people are plenty sane enough to realize that this direclty affects nothing that he did or did not do at UT. but simply, we are just happy for the guy........

for anyone that does thing this affects UT directly, well, then i would agree with both of you.

but the vast majority of people are simply rooting for a TN guy. that's it.

So Tee Martin is a better QB than Manning?

jakez, it's fine to be happy for a UT guy to win the super bowl. but i guarantee there was not this much talk about wilson getting a super bowl ring last year.

dont' disagree (though personally i was happy...LOL)...

but the qb position is different......that's the big thing here. Peyton, as do most qb's, has always gotten so much credit and so much criticism about how the whole team performs that it was a polarizing issue, not only for TN fans to root for him, but the general media and football fan perception was that he couldn't win the big game...whether it was against FL in college, no national title, playoff win, etc, etc, etc.

that's the difference.......it WAS peyton manning. he has a stigma that has followed him for the past 13 years........and it finally got vindicated.

no other TN player that has played in a Super Bowl has had to live up to that, the only one that could even come close was Reggie white......but even then, that was not on the same level as what Peyton has gone thru from a criticism standpoint.....it was always the "yeah but....." with Manning.

i get what you're saying, and i agree.......but i'll cut these guys some slack. it was a big deal to anyone that is a fan of Peyton Manning......i'm sure there were folks in New Orleans that felt the same way as did a good many TN fans and of course INdy fans. they saw their guy that has been maligned by the media for over a decade about what can't do or couldn't do, finally do it.

How many times did Kelly beat Alabama?

I remember him losing all of them, so he did get some hardware, but Peyton brought bragging rights back to Tennessee football.

I see you love this in house fighting !

The irony is that, notwithstanding his motivation of hating the Gators, I completely agree with hatvol that Manning's UT resume is missing the big accomplishments. Since the SB, I have repeatedly posted here that 1) I don't consider Marino to be a great QB because he failed to lead his team to what counted, victories in key situations; and 2) that Manning's winning the SB this year does not translate into anything particularly meaningful as UT goes.

While I'm at it, to me Marino was the beginning of the slide for the Dolphins. It might not be accurate to blame it on him, but his arrival and transcendence to the top of the QB heap while at Miami also happens to be the point at which their decline to what is best described now as a big pile of mushy mediocrity, began.

so losing to florida is ok, losing to alabama is not. nice theory

Neither are OK:) .

but in the context of the time when Manning was here........beating bama was a crown jewel. and when he went down there and beat 'em up in 95....that was a big deal at the time.

neither are ok. correct. in kelly's time bama was the team to beat. in manning's time, florida was the team to beat. it's regardless though. bottom line is the super bowl win did nothing meaningful for UT football. just peyton's legacy.

Casey Clausen would be a better QB as well, since he beat UF twice, in the swamp. Further, if memory serves, it wasn't long after CC's first victory there that Spurrier tucked his tail between his legs and ran to the NFL.
