Not a troll, see my join date. I'm a UGA fan first but a SEC/CFB fan second. I see the recruiting that he's done and the passion that he exudes, but I'm still not totally sold on CBJ. When he was first hired I thought it was a great move. But HC'ing in the SEC is a very tough, albeit well-paying job. So far I think he has everything but the sideline aspect. It may become apparent that he has that. I thought the UF game was a setback, but the rest of the season will tell. I don't think you have much of a shot vs Bama, but you should be competitive the rest of the way. A bowl game would convince me that CBJ has what it takes on the slide lines. :hi:

vol fans dont care what you think.

why isnt there a dislike button?

Sometimes, they are more objective than your average orange glasses wearing, koolaid drinking, Tennessee fan willing to fall in love with any coach that says VFL and wears orange

Sometimes you have to listen to those on the outside looking in. You can't totally throw their opinions out.

Likely, once the media starts saying negative things, the excuses will be

"they hate UT"
"they are media hacks"

Etc...etc...etc... Ad nauseum

Hope your wrong, but your points seem as sound as usual. I like CBJ, but I need to see improvement and right now this is headed for a 4 win season...worse than his first. I hope he gets it done, but I wont feel guilty for wanting my Vols to perform better than this!

Most Vol fans know what we have in CBJ. I will agree finding a coach that can compete in the SEC is difficult. But if you can recruit to compete then you can compete anywhere.

One important point that is not being addressed on this board is that if a head coach excels at recruiting 4* & 5* talent he will also be able to attract and hire top level assistant coaching experience to support his program. I was around when CPF took over for CJM. CPF was excellent at bring in top level assistant coaches. Top level assistant coaches is one if not the most important factor in the success of a football program. Butch will make the tough calls if he feel it is necessary. If he has to make a change in his assistant coaching staff it will get done. From what I have seen to this point he is an excellent manager. If necessary he will make the managerial calls necessary to insure this program will succeeds. To this point he has the program moving in the right direction. If I was the AD at this point I would be taking every step necessary to retain his services. Thus fare every observable step he has taken in the development of this program has been excellent. He will most likely need another two to three years to get this program back to the talent level necessary to win the SEC/EAST.

OK.

How did your under achieving Coach lose to the worst USCjr team in 5 years with all that 5 star talent on your roster. I'd worry about your own coaching staff before being critical of ours.

Our scrub O line almost came into your house and beat your team full of five stars.

Why such a snarky reply? Nothing he said factually is inaccurate and the portion that was his opinion was given in a respectful way. He may not be a Vols fan but this is a relevant topic of discussion.

On topic: With the mess CBJ inherited I think he deserves 4 full years to get his own recruits in and his way of doing things firmly enacted. IMO the last thing we need this year or next is coaching turnover. At least give him a chance to sink or swim with his own guys.

Legit post IMO. Like you I'm an SEC fan second. I think that all the folks on here ready to jump of the ledge would be very happy with a bowl win; heck, I think we all would.

Its just a matter of him making all the hard work and energy pay off on the field. We are all hoping that it starts happening sooner rather than later.

To VN regulars actually thinking CBJ's job could be in jeopardy; for your information this is a troll feeding frenzy. Whatta' concept! We should've beat UGA last year and could've beat them this year. Who wants to wager on next year, girls? This season's going exactly like most sportswriters prognosticated. Considering the lack of depth and outright dearth of talent on the O-line (not a natural OT in the lineup), 6-6 with this brutal SEC schedule is an acceptable record. Unlike some of you fence sitters, I'm not going to address a dawg troll directly. Being a regular poster, in a situation such as this one is simply being a regular troller.

Our "under achieving" coach has won 2 SEC titles and about 5 SEC East titles. Butch didn't even win his conference once outright at Cincinnati and took over a team in UT with AJ Johsnon, Cam Sutton, Marquez North coming in, three future NFL lineman, Maggitt, a QB with experience in Worley (kid has tools, he needs coaching), and experience in the running game and he is going to be clawing and scratching down the stretch to get to bowl eligible in his second year. But you want to talk about our "under achieving" coach when the OP just asked a simple question?

Along with the future NFL guys on the OL, you had others in that group who had been in the program for a year or two but that sat for 99% of the season last year. No experience on the OL? That's not all Dooley's fault. Somewhat, sure. But coaching and roster management will always fall on the guy who is currently in charge.

I wish UGA had to play our schedule every year...

UGA has Auburn as a permanent west rival. Pretty solid rivalry. Tech is a decent OOC opponent. They have been lucky in avoiding some decent teams from the west of late. Getting Arkansas was really fortunate considering the rest of the west.

We play five of the same teams every year and play in the same conference. They also go out of conference and play teams like Clemson and Boise st.

Exactly my point. They schedule power 5 teams from the weak ACC while we have scheduled UCLA, Oregon, and Oklahoma. PAC-12 and Big 12 are on another level than the ACC. Plus Clemson couldn't even pull out a gift wrapped game from a FSU team without Winston. Plus I find It kinda coincidental that they always get the easiest SEC West teams year after year

i've said it before that i think CBJ will do just about as good of a job as Mark Richt. eventually. not sure that gets him 10+ years at tennessee though.
