Talk about SEC bashing:

I am so tired of hearing SEC fans say that "the second-best Pac-10 team beat the fourth-best SEC team" when Cal beat Tennessee. Is that all they got?
--Joe, Sacramento
Joe, Joe, Joe. So blissfully naïve. If there's two things I've learned during my time on this beat, it's that the SEC is positively, indisputably the greatest conference in the history of mankind, and little things like logic, facts and common sense have no bearing whatsoever on this distinction.
Tennessee beats Cal last year? Yet another feather in the SEC's cap. Cal beats Tennessee this year? Completely irrelevant. USC beats Auburn 23-0 in 2003? That wasn't one of Auburn's better teams. Auburn goes 12-0 the next year and gets left out of the BCS title game? A crime against humanity, seeing as the Tigers obviously would have beaten the Trojans. Big East champion Louisville comes within an offsides call of edging SEC champ Florida out of last year's BCS title game? Exhibit A why the whole system needs to be blown up. The fact that Big East champion West Virginia beat SEC champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl just a year earlier? Eh -- the Dawgs weren't up for that game. Les Miles calls out USC's "soft" Pac-10 schedule? Well ... duh. But wouldn't that make SEC divisional champion Arkansas -- whom the Trojans beat 50-14 just a year earlier -- even softer? No, because Darren McFadden wasn't healthy, and he's obviously capable of producing 36 points on his own. Florida beating Ohio State like a rented mule in last year's title game? Indisputable confirmation that the Big Ten can't hold a candle to the SEC. The fact SEC teams lost their other two bowl games against Big Ten foes? Never happened.
So basically, Joe, I wouldn't waste your time with one of those futile debates. Just accept the SEC's eternal superiority for what it is and we can all go back to watching The Pick-Up Artist in peace.

He's got a good point...

I personally think the SEC is the best but SEC fans definitely have a superiority complex. We blow up the things that show how great the conference is and then we downplay anything that threatens that superiority...

Of course these are just the actions of a typical fan and should come as no surprise to anyone.

he makes some good points, but avoids the big issue, which is that top to bottom there isnt really another conference that approached our depth. Sure, the PAC-10 has for the last few years had one team that could beat the pants off just about any team on any given Satuarday, and now looks two have two teams with a legit shot at a top 10 season finish, but what about the other 8 teams? Sure WV and Louisville might be pretty good teams, and sure Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State are no slouches, but neither the Big10 nor the Big East, not the Big 12, nor the Pac10 have 8 teams that are a legitimate shot to finish in the top 15 year in year out like the SEC does.

I think the "superiority complex" of SEC fans is merely a reaction to the decades of northern bias against Southern schools. I am no North vs. South guy, but all one has to do is look at the large disparity there is between Heisman trophy winners for Big Ten schools versus SEC schools.

I just think its on account of the difference in the fan bases. Whether the teams are equal or not is debatable. But there is no doubt but that SEC fans take it much more seriously than do PAC-10 fans.

By the way. Now that we are five days past the game, allow me to personally thank the UT football team for giving the PAC 10 apologists more ammunition. Way to go Vols! Appreciate the way you stood up for the SEC there.

God, do the Gators have to do everything around here?

:)

It's common knowledge that the 04 Tigers would have given a MUCH better NC performance vs. USC than the lackluster Sooners did.

God I hope we pull it off! If we beat you, life will be hell on VN.

Any conference bashing this week should be directly at the Big 10. Thanks Michigan.

It's not about who beats who every once in a while, it's depth and year-in-year-out skill. The SEC has quite a few national championships since the BCS came out. Sure, the top team of every big conference is good, but we really only have 3 really really bad teams now...how many does the Big 10, 12 and Pac 10 have?

Coach Saban has said that he doesn't care what conference a team is from because the outcome will be the same for them as it was for W. Carolina.

When the Urbanators travel across the country and beat a top 10 team in their opener, you can retch up all the mental sewage you'd like.

Urbanators like to wait til the final game of the season ..travel across country and spank the #1 team all season when it matters.:p

The only thing he really made sense about was putting it on the field and not in the court of the Medias and COaches opinions....

...CAL 45, UT 31....is that a FACT or an Opinion?

Q: How many different SEC teams have won the National Championship in football in the past 15 years?
A: 4 - FL, LSU, TN, AL (On a side note, this does not include Auburns perfect season where they were not allowed to play for the National Championship).

Q: How many different Pac10 schools have won the National Championship in football in the past 15 years?
A: 1 – USC

It’s great how an entire conference can ride the coattails of 1 team.

Somebody should ask Mandel what it means when Cincinnati annihilates Oregon State.

Good god, this is a stupid argument. Is the SEC the best conference every single year? No. Some years the Big 12 is up, some years the Big 10 is up, some years the ACC is up. Some years the Pac-10 even has more than a couple of teams playing football. There's a lot of yearly fluctuation in college football.

One thing that never fluctuates is the conference that everybody else compares themselves to.
