Steve Spurrier: 'Tennessee Should Hire Tee Martin'

You know, I think when kiffin started trolling everyone as our head coach, fans would fall right back in line. Not to mention having our team look like they can actually play football, or how the recruiting class would improve...fans would come along. I think most of us already have

I agree. I think Kiffin is capable of winning the naysayers over, but I also think that Tee Martin and Lane Kiffin are very similar from an offensive strategy perspective, and Tee Martin comes with none of the baggage that Lane has. With Tee, you're getting a slightly less proven commodity in exchange for a strong leader and guy who can unite the fanbase.

If we are going to hire a coach that will win ASAP, hire Kiffin or some of the others possibly avail after Sat.

If we are going to need a longer term build, Hire Tee. I think the fanbase would have the patience for him to get the stuff in order. He is a great recruiter. Problem is we cant even hire the HC correctly, how are we going to get a Coach Tee the top assistants he needs to succeed?

Quincy Avery who has worked with Dobbs and other QB's just said what he says no one will say, that he thinks Peyton doesn't want Tee to be coach.

I don't think Tee would take it. And if he publicly turned it down, that would be the nail in the coffin.

Uniting the fanbase and winning games are 2 different things there coach.

I agree but not so fast....unifying the fan base is now a priority...losing games at this point with Tee is greater than getting into a contract with a no name google search puppet bobble headed coach.

Spend the money a reasonable amount for Tee and hire a killer staff that is can develop teach and get kids in. Things may not be great the first year or two, but over time it will grow and rebuild with the coach and staff.

Tee Martin is the right answer...He can do the job and will succeed if giving the right opportunity...He is one that can be trusted which is important at this point.

The administration, AD and coaches work for this state in long and short terms of it....

We need transparency we have not had it since Doug Dickey...Somebody needs to held accountable and responsible for this mess...Can't fire the fan base but you can start at the bottom and work your way up.

The Culture has to be changed once again and not at the level of coaching but in the AD and Administration...

DiderotsGhost Tee Martin has been one of the best position coaches said:
Those around the USC program don't agree with your high praise for Tee as an offensive coordinator. Many reports I have seen rate at a very average OC....

a young inexperienced recruiter has not earned the right to enter the fray in the SEC.

Spurrier might rather his school face Tee than Kiffin

what you think?

I can't see where they are making any effort to unite the fan base with a hire. Seems like they want it to be divided.

Auburn’s DC Kevin Steele... look how he shut Bama down and he is one of the top recruiters around as well as Tee Martin.

I would take Steele in a heartbeat but he is at a point now I think he is looking at head coaching positions. Chavis, with Sumerlin getting fired, is basically unemployed at this point and very available.

To Mr Currie.

If you're hesitant on Tamaurice because of race...that's sad and pathetic. Don't let your own blind stupidity (and apparent all around incompetnce) mar your vision. It's pathetic and sad that this has to even be an issue, but, it's the elephant in the room. Tee is a Vol through and theough. Was a successful student athlete, and, according to former players, a leader. Beyond that, he has SEC experience. Know what else, he's qualified. I couldn't give a rat's ass if he were purple, why does UT care? I'm not saying he's entitled to the job. He may not be ready. But, you have to make thar call to a vastly qualified candidate, who loves UT, who bled Orange, who has rhe respect of alumni, fans, above you I might add. To do this job, oh yeah. And, that race thing. Wasnt UT the trend setter who started the first black QB in the SEC? Why not start a new trend at UT, Currie? It's obvious you are clueless, so ill spell it out...

HIRE TEE MARTIN!

You have to think of the timing and what has transpired. At least at a minimum you interview him and if he doesn't qualify, you tell him what his shortfalls were. USC has endorsed him for the HC position here, Spurrier has given him an endorsement today. All the former players what him to be the one who rights the ship. He played here, coached here, but isn't qualified to be HC here?

I think you’re not quite getting it. The administration is at a severe crossroads right now. Screw this hire up again, go get a guy like Doeren and watch the attendance drop big time and the money dry up and an entire generation of fans will be lost

Conversely, hire a guy like VFL Tee Martin, and the enthusiasm, attendance, confidence and money flows, big time. Everybody will be invested in his success here...fans and former players alike.

Also, why in the world would you assume Tee can’t win here? He has outstanding credentials, is a phenomenal recruiter, coordinates an outstanding PAC-12 offense.

Phil Fulmer, Mark Richt, Bob Stoops, Dabo Swinney, James Franklin, Kirby Smart, Lincoln Riley, and many others.....what do they all have in common?

Uniting the fan base is usually a prerequisite.

How do you expect a guy to succeed that 75% or more of the fan base rejects.

It’s why Zook never had a chance at Florida

9-36 overall 1-31 big 12
Those records speak for themselves. Some great coordinators just aren't cut out to be a HC.

The other way to unify the fan base is to boot Currie and replace him with Fulmer. That change could also open up some potential HC hires

The only question is Tennessee where you want Tee Martin to gain his first Head Coaching experience? Big risk for a program going through a rough patch.

Pay Brohm, he's worth it!

I feel Tee will be back in Knoxville shortly after Jimbo is officially a HC at Tennessee.

The Ole Ball Coach is right on the money. It only makes sense. At this point we need to rally the community and save the program. Tee is one of the only one's the entire fan base can get behind. Kiffin may be more ready now, but the fan base is split on him, be it right or wrong. Tee is loved and he's a winner. He would have all the support. Well, seems he's loved by everyone except this administration sadly.

Gotta start somewhere! Hire him, let him bring in a solid staff and let's role with it. At this point Currie will hire Butch 2.0 and we will be looking for a coach in 3 years - it might as well be Tee Martin. He may surprise us! (That would be nice for a change.)
