This is why Florida will always be the game I want most each and every season. I don't think my hatred for the gators will ever mellow, but oddly enough it has for Spurrier. You got to respect his body of work. He turned Florida into a blueblood program and even more impressive he turned USCjr into a legit SEC contender. Not to mention he was trolling before the internet was a thing.

Damn I hate the gators Nation LOL.

Steve never forgave UT for not recruiting him, or asking him to be the Head Football Coach. We suffered immensely under his reign of terror, at Florida. But, the real smack in the face was when he started beating us, with USCjr. Great Coach! His record speaks for itself. I did have the pleasure of blind-siding his son Jr, seperating him from the ball, and sending his ass to the sidelines.

I liked the days when Steve was head coach at Florida. The SEC was exciting in those days. He threw barbs at everyone. It was just his style.
The competition in the SEC was fantastic. Made for great football.
Steve was a good player and a good coach. Can`t take anything away from him.
With Alabama dominating the SEC now, things seem kinda dull now compared to then.
Back in the day of Florida s fun and gun offense, it was exciting in the SEC.
Also, we were competitive in those days.
Maybe we can be good again, and soon.

I've known him for longer than most here have been alive. He was born in Miami FL but raised in TN (Athens, Newport, and Johnson City).

born and raised are two different things...he sure seemed more pissed at Tennessee than Miami...guess Miami didn't make that much of an impression on him...:D

To me there is a surprising amount of love here for Spurrier. I admit he's funny, but being a total jackass to a bunch of college kids is classless. Being a quitter is classless. Not crazy about him. Of course me talking bad about him anonymously on here is probably classless too. JMO.

I'm with you, Spurrier was/is an arrogant AHOLE thru an thru.

It's going to take a win over Saban to match match how I felt when we layed the wood on the old ball coach. I used to say if Florida was playing the Taliban I'd root for the Taliban. I've mellowed on CSS lately but not enough be a fan by any means

I saw an interesting stat about Spurrier, I guess on an AFLAC trivia question. In college football, only 4 people are HOF as both a player and coach. Spurrier is one, and what I find curious is Bobby Dodd is also one. Dodd of course played for Kingsport and then UT. He was QB during back to back undefeated seasons. I don't think of the Tri-Cities as major football country.

I loved to hate Spurrier back in the day. But I also loved that he was comfortable with who he is. You all know the saying associated with the honey badger. The same can be said about the Head Ball Coach.

Actually, TN did recruit him, but he did not want to be a single wing tailback. If he had come though, he would have been a QB under Dickey.
No one knew at the time that would happen.
I heard Steve say that Tennessee wanted him in both sports but he told them there was no way he was going to be a single wing tailback because he didn't run the ball that well. He said that if UT had not been in that offense he would have gone to UT. Ray Graves, a former Vol Standout, got him to go to Florida.
