Steve Spurrier is retiring

WAIT... Does Steve know he is not at USC... he is not being fired or forced out... someone let him know its ok, he can hang around awhile longer.

That's the coward's way out. Leaving in the middle of the season and quitting on his team. That's just sad !!! It would serve him right if the team just mailed in the rest of the season.

No way they'd have "fired" him. It was always going to be a deal like this.

Of course, he's earned it there. But don't be fooled into thinking that he could stay and lose indefinitely. SC would eventually force him out.

He is a classless big mouth a-hole. The only regret is we will not get to hand him another loss before he slinks off.

Hope he does not bring his carcass back home to the tri cities.

Nooooo! Memphis is just getting in their groove:bad:

If you think that guy is gonna stay at Memphis, you are crazy. They don't have the money to keep him there and he has already made a name for himself... he's as good as gone to greener pastures. Book it. F Memphis!

That is a shame you cant appreciate him. I know I will miss him, he was a great offensive mind and one funny *******. Also, I am a "classless big mouth a-hole" so maybe that is why I always loved CSS, especially when we beat him.

If I heard it roght on MNF, it is effective immediately, and an interim coach will be named.

So either he has had enough, he feels it is what is best for SC, or it might be health related.

That is my take as well...effective immediately.

I wish people would think for just a second about this. He was owed $4 million a year thru 2018. Put 2 and 2 together. SC likely just wrote him a high 7 figure check to walk away. We'd have all done the same thing.

Sometimes I could absolutely not stand you. Many times I admired the heck out of you. From one old fart to another, I will miss you.

I had the same thought. How long did Bryant live?. A month?

Good ole Bear drank hard and smoked every day until age 69. And this was when medicene was not near as advanced to get people to live longer than they should. Got to give him props.

No low fat/low carb diets for him. No time on the treadmill. Enjoyed good ole southern country food until the end. Nothing better than sipping on strong bourbon and enjoying a marlboro. God, that is how I want to live.

He still has a lot of connections here, but I doubt he lives here.

Wow. Who will replace his not recruting for them? Big shoe to fill.

UT fans should be pissed he is retiring.

Wish it wasn't immediate so that we could give him a standing ovation after beating the Cocks. He's a great coach and a ton of fun

That's how I feel. He must be sick or just sees they aren't a bowl team. For a legend like him he should go out anyway he wants. We all respect him. He is one of the Original Ganstas!! Let him have free tickets to any sec game he wants for life.

wrong. He will be a head coach again and is learning from a great one as we speak

Dude. "Wrong" OC for life. You don't simply get left I'm Arizona and fired and end up being a good coach. Nick Saban isn't teaching him anything, Saban hates him but sees hr has value as an OC. Period.

I'm not so sure he isn't being asked to step down now just like fulmer. That's a shame if so. Spurrier should be able to go out when he chooses.

That old mans still got it!!

IMHO, it would be wrong to view the OBC as anything other than a class guy today. He was a coach I loved to hate years ago but came to appreciate\respect him for the great coach he was. That in itself would have been impossible for me to say a few years back. He was responsible on the sidelines for many Saturday evening heartaches for me whether at SC or FL.

Thanks for all you gave as a college player and coach OBC. Hope You and family can enjoy your retirement years shooting birdies instead of shooting your mouth off about TN football :hi:

Ha! Don't think for one moment when he does a parting interview that he will not have a parting jab.
