Steve Spurrier is retiring

What's the point of that, though, if your team is going nowhere and you're a distraction?

Perhaps I am just old school but I damn sure plan to pass it along to my kids.

I ain't quitting something I start until it's over. That's what athletics should teach us

Just saw on ESPNs ticket that he hasn't had a losing season since his first one at Duke. That's pretty unbelievable.

And maybe you just put your finger on it. It just might be the SOB's vanity going out mid season to avoid a losing season after all!

Spurrier is sleez! I'm glad that he is gone!! But, I do wish he had finished out the year. SC is horrible though.

Sometimes it's not our choice. Kinda hard to fire a guy like Steve who put your school on the map as it is today. SC football was pretty much just the butt of jokes before he arrived.

Pretty much official. Saw it on 24/7 before coming to this board.

Steve Spurrier to retire

It says he is retiring IMMEDIATELY....wow. I am double-shocked at that. Thought when he retired, it would be at the end of the season. I guess he doesn't want to go out after a full season basting in the rotisserie....fully cooked.

Can't blame him. He was headed for a Vandy-esque season. May he bury the visor and hold the gas pump high! :)

He should have coached out the rest of the season. Or even better, announced before the season and coached it out. He deserved a farewell tour. He would have deserved recognition at Neyland and every other visitor stadium they played in. Much like Jeter and Kareem. The man is a legend. He has his place on the Mt. Rushmore of SEC coaches along with The Bear, Neyland, Saban, and you pick the other one.

Wow... Both USC's lose their head coaches on the same day. And both are named Steve... However, the comparisons stop there. Hope the Ole Ball Coach enjoys retirement.
