Tennessee. I wish the national media & some other people would get that fact down pat. Steve was born and lived the 1st 8 years of his life in the lousy state of Florida. His father, a preacher, moved his family to Johnson City Tennessee after Steve turned 8 and there is where he grew up.

8-18 are some very formative years.

... and this matters because?

It automatically eliminates him from consideration for the coaching post that isn't vacant, unlike Lane Kiffin, Skip Holtz, and Jimmy Johnson, who are all part of the secret Tennessee Illuminati.

as a true native and resident of Johnson City, I'm fine with considering Spurrier one of our own. I didn't go to Science Hill, but anyone that has ever walked by their trophy cases can easily see that UT seriously screwed up by not offering Spurrier out of HS. He owns records in football, baseball and golf. And some of those are not only school records, but state records as well. He's also plastered all over Johnson City Country Club.

i should also point out though the trophy cases have been vandalized numerous times, as has the football field.

Science Hill went the big 0-for at home for a long long time after dedicating the football field in his name. Made me very happy.

Could somebody contact the powers that be and inquire why the University of Tennessee couldn't see or be interested in the fact that Spurrier was a future Hypesman Award winner and lived in the back yard of the school......

it's been debated for years, but I've heard his family mention how not being recruited heavily by UT has caused most of his trash talking towards the school.

I realize that but still don't know why Tennessee didn't try to recruit him.

He was recruited by TN, but the asst coach that showed up to talk to Spurrier and his family had alcohol on his breath and the process ended right there. Before you ask for a "link", google it your damn self.

I know that many of you people won't accept this, but according to Steve Spurrier, he was offered a SS by Tennessee but decided to go to a school not running the single wing offense. Florida was his second choice & he knew what they were running for sure.

i knew they offered something, but they never really tried to get Spurrier.

We were still running the Single Wing offense and Spurrier was a passer.
Too bad they didn't call it the Wild Hog or Tennessee would've had about five or six National Championship trophies in the case.
