Steve Kiner's thoughts on AD, Butch

Doesn't mean you don't either. Besides, it's not the "company" it's a division of it that he's been involved with most of his life.

It seems that some don't like the idea just because they don't like him. I don't really care for him, but I have no idea if he'd be a good AD or not.

"I have no idea if he'd be a good AD or not" is precisely why he shouldn't get the job. Because nobody does, and this job is too important to risk on a complete unknown.

Yes those was the days cocaine Tony and the no name defense and a azz kicking to Miami on Jan. 1 1986.

Tony Robinson was injured in the Alabama game at Legion Field ( I was there) and missed the rest of that season. Darrel Dickey was the QB in that epic win over the Hurricanes.

Anyone know Kiner's experience running an AD? Didn't see it in the article (strange huh?)
So only current and former AD's are allowed to have an opinion in this matter. Lotta unqualified folks running their mouths up in this thread if that's the case.

Just because a bunch of posters on a message board have "no idea" doesn't mean "nobody" does. I'm sure the ones making the decision have an "idea", and if they are smart, they won't let personal feelings effect thier decision.

I'm just going to keep posting this article until everyone stops throwing the bammer's BS story onto Phil.

Judge's book goes behind the scenes of Cottrell case | AL.com

"While Cottrell attorney Tommy Gallion painted University of Tennessee boosters and former Vols coach Phillip Fulmer as grand conspirators in a plan to take down Alabama, Wilson notes that it was another SEC rival that alerted the NCAA about Means' recruitment."

FWIW, Wilson is a Bama alum.

Those were some fun days on Gridscape when TennStud was posting! More of a reason to hate Bama than Spurrier quips. Tommy Gallion had CPF subpoenaed at SEC media days.

There's some people you don't question regarding UT football and Steve Kiner is definitely one of them!!!

He qualified some of his statements and was speaking totally from the "Volunteer Heart" Most of you on this board don't know anything about Kiner. . .

. . .he was a tremendously gifted player who had more "heart" than anyone on the field! He would make EVERY Fan on this board proud if you got to see him play!

No one has all the answers, even someone of Kiner's stature. But I totally trust Steve Kiner's assessment here and sure hope we can implement Fulmer's experience and passion for everything UT!

A Vol fan since 1965.

Great answer - too bad a lot of posters never saw Kiner or Reynolds or many other Vols. For every one of us who has been around long enough to do that and acquire a few years of wisdom and a sense of history, there have to be at least four who see life with all the depth of a video game.

It's amazing, too, that the good UT ADs have been football coaches - including Neyland, Woodruff, and Dickey; the last two were business types and were clearly a few steps down, yet all the clamor against another coach as AD.

I get the feeling that some people just assume the athletic director was good if Tennessee football had some success during the same time period.
