Though both QBs struggled with last years offense, I fell JC is the better of the two and the best fit for our program to be successful. Go Vols!!

Crompton had a couple of forgettable moments Wednesday morning, too. Early in the 11-on-11 drills, Crompton fumbled two snaps from center. The two fumbled snaps were separated by only one play.

Late in the 11-on-11 drills, Crompton threw a pass almost right in the hands of rushing defensive end Gerald Williams, who easily batted it down. Crompton threw another pass behind tight end Jeff Cottam that could easily have been interception.

I just don't have the words... This sounds like there's been no change in Crompton. it sounds like it's not even a matter of the playbook but actual mechanics.

The only thing consistent with Crompton appears to be inconsistency. Consistently inconsistent.

You know after watching him last year and the dreadful "Clawfense", I would see him on TV forgetting to put his mouth piece in becasue he was having to do too much thinking. I think this offense is going to be a little more simplified, with 2 or 3 reads, and excellent QB-Reciever communication.

While Crompton had a little better day than Stephens, it doesn't sound like he set the world on fire.

meh. both Crompton and Stephens were unimpressive to say the least last year. the fact that Crompton has nothing more than an edge over Stephens doesnt comfort me at all for this upcoming season.

its still early. i cling to the hope that he will gain the confidence needed to be consistently average. thats all we can hope for from him, IMO.

I agree Titan, you would think that if Stephens was going to be the starter then he would be working with the 1st Team.

I could care less about who starts at QB. I am wanting to hear our O-line really stepping up and playing well. A good offensive line will make either of our QB's look at least average(or they won't eff up too bad) and will make our good RB's look REALLY good. And that will win us games and give us a successful first year under this coaching staff and help us attract a good QB to come to UT.

i think if Stephens was going to be the starter, CLK wouldve said so. he doesnt strike me as the type to hold off on an important issue such as that. all leads point to Crompton. however, i believe him when he says that theres nothing set in stone yet, but you havent heard him say anything spectacular about NS (or either, for that matter, but at least hes indicated that JC has had the lead since spring...) so again, i see JC as the projected started as of now.

If you are the coach and you have two players of approximately equal abilities which one do you start?

For most other positions they co-start and both play, but for QB I think the coach goes with the younger player. Kiffin wants to show the team is getting better next year. If Stephens starts, and returns next year with Brown at RB, UT could have a decent offense. :twocents:
