There are currently 128 FBS football teams..
Two are undefeated (Clemson & Iowa) with about 2 weeks remaining in the season...
There are only 11 remaining with one loss and Tenn has played 3 of them...

I post these just to remind everyone how hard it is to win games against good teams. Even if Tenn can beat Ala and Fl next year, it is a huge task to beat several of the other teams they play and even get to the SECCG much less beat the WEST representative.

Yes Tenn had leads on several very good teams this year, but those teams are very very good. They have been behind on the scoreboard to other teams and came back against them also.

I blame the conservative play calling on accuracy issues more than anything. If you try to pass on 1st down and don't gain more than 2 yds or worse, you have a hard time picking up 1st downs. Running seems the better option. I think Tenn will be very good next year but will have to be able to pass the ball downfield. If Dobbs improves, Tenn can win some big games....If not, look for more of the same

Can't lose to Florida, just plain sick of it. Must win that game next year and get to Atlanta. I think we should be better on both side of the ball and being at home we should take care of business.

We didn't lose to Oklahoma, Florida or Alabama because of Josh Dobbs.

We lost to Florida despite Josh Dobbs due to coaching gaffs. A brilliant, record breaking and gritty effort by Dobbs

We lost to Okalahoma due to poor late game defense, Colton Jumper and poor clock management with timid second half play calling

We lost to Alabama because they are better than we are

Maybe you can put some blame on him for the Arky loss as it appeared to be a pass heavy game plan that wasn't well executed. But the o-line and WR unit weren't exactly studs in that game either

I am beside myself because every single year we have droves of fans that want to be some smash mouth team that leads the league in rushing...

And here we are, being a dominant rushing team and everyone wants to complain that we don't pass enough or well enough. Good grief

Tenn averages thru 11 games:

Rush avg 4.6 YPA 10 rushes = 46yds
Pass avg 6.95 YPC 10 pass atempts = 41.7 yds (based on 60% completion)

Folks still wonder and blame DeBord for not passing more??????

I saw C J Beathard play against Nashville MBA his senior year and the guy could zip the ball. I remember wishing at that time he would be a Vol, but I think he was already a Ole Miss commit.

He is 12 and 0 as the starting QB for Iowa this year.

Another Dooley miss for sure.

If we played their schedule we could have started Derek Dooley himself at QB and be undefeated right now too...

Stats for thought. Josh dobbs had 89 passing yards yesterday

In his first full season as a starter, Joshua Dobbs has completed 178 of 298 pass attempts (59.7%) for 1985 yards (180.5 yards per game). He’s thrown 13 TDs and 5 interceptions. He’s also rushed the ball 123 time for 530 yards (48.2 ypg) and scored 8 TDs.

Not saying he isn't the best they have, just needs to improve to take the team to the next level

Thanks Dwight,

because it wasn't hyperbole at all....

I don't need hyperbole. I just think it's a shame that Bethard, who played for Franklin HS in Tn didn't get much attention from Dooley. And if he were our QB this year and had our receivers to throw to, and Hurd to hand the ball off to, we might have won a couple more games, that is all.

I was thinking today, HE MUST be hurt. Or his head is buried in his finals. He played like this towards the end of last year as well. Once finals were done, he played much better... the entire team did.

Instead, we signed Nathan Peterman. You can't sign every single quarterback in the state of Tennessee on the off chance that four years from then, one of them may give you one good season. The fans were psyched about getting Peterman. Sorry the dude you want went somewhere else, where he was put into what could arguably be considered the perfect opportunity for him to become successful.

I think I read an article on SEC country or BR, that Dobbs was not 100% yet. That could be wrong but he certainly has not looked like himself lately. Of course Mizzous defense is big time and he still played well.

OP went around the mulberry bush to take a swipe at Dobbs, which seems to be the cost of entry for a certain cadre here. I agree with much of your post, in that the OU & UF games we did not lose due to lack of points. We lost because our D at the time was not a top notch SEC D that could stop good teams with the game on the line. I believe our D is now playing to that level.

I actually did not mean to down Dobbs. He can be an electrifying player. I really like him. I meant for my stats to show play calling numbers for the season. Running 10 times gains more yards than attempting 10 passes with less chance of turnover.
