Evan Berry led the nation in KO returns.
Cam Sutton led the nation in punt returns.
Vols 2nd in SEC in rushing per game, 5th in total offense, 4th in scoring offense.
Vols 6th in the SEC, 26th in the nation in scoring defense.
4th in nation, 1st in SEC in 3rd down conversion defense.
2n in SEC in 3rd down conversion offense.
Aaron Medley, after a shaky start, became solid down the stretch, after a firm statement by Butch that he was our kicker.

The talent on the team has been greatly upgraded, but much of this success is also due to excellent coaching.

Most of the success is due to the schedule and Nick Chubb's injury. Coaching is the reason we're 8-4 and not 11-1.

Yep, the schedule. Because we've never played this schedule before and it's not highly rated or anything.

Stats don't lie.

Dude, I know it's impossible for you, but just enjoy it.

Our schedule has remained practically the same for years, and guess what, the statistics improved.

You should be like the person in your avatar and just sit a cliff to think to yourself.

All your posts are the same, and it's evident you're a Butch hater. Nothing wrong with disliking the coach, but at least bring some other content.

We beat only 2 teams going to bowl games this year.

Bowling Green and Georgia.

All five teams we beat in our current winning streak are home for Christmas.

If not for Oklahoma this would've been the softest schedule in SEC history.

Can't argue with that but in our losses this year we had a legit shot to beat those teams that were better than us. This season is full of what ifs but at least we are trending upwards for a change.

I wouldn't say excellent coaching, but yes CBJ has this program in better shape than it's been in a long time. This team is talented and competes with whoever it plays. Credit should go to CBJ, just like the criticism has.

I've been down on Jones' coaching this year too because of what might've been, but the wins are increasing just like everyone wants. And it's asinine to play an injury into the argument. If Maggitt doesn't get hurt, how many of those close games do we pull out? It goes both ways.

Agreed. We are far from having great Coaching, especially our assistant Coach's. We are in dire need of WR and Secondary coaching upgrade and QB coaching would help a lot too. You notice Ala has 4 assistant Coach's that are being mentioned for HC jobs alone. I don't think we will be fighting off too many schools for any of our assistants, which usually isn't a good thing. It's nice to have stability but if you don't have at least a coach or two you have to worry about losing then that should tell you all you need to know.

Good post Macrovol...most of that upgraded talent are freshman or sophomores...we should be stronger next year..if we get the bowl win this year, it will be a 2 win increase each season so getting 11 wins next year is doable.

Dumb last point. If not for Oklahoma? Well, I guess every team can say "If not for those hard teams on our schedule, we'd have an easy schedule". So dumb

Yeah and if we had maggitt, marcus jackson, gaulden, croom, or even pig stayed on team we probably have a better record. Your arguments fail really hard.

One more notable stat is that we're 6th nationally in fewest penalty yards per game. This is the 2nd year in a row we've led the SEC in that category.

That's difficult to say because it was these coaches that brought 90 percent of these players to UT. Without the excellent recruiting by these coaches, UT would still be at the bottom of the SEC East instead of near the top.

Nice stats. One thing I found a bit intriguing is Tennessee was excellent on 3rd down defense but ranked near the last in the nation in 4th down defense. And many of the 4th downs were not short yardage.

Why the large difference between 3rd and 4th?
