Statement from Carter to John Brice

Unless the medical staff or an independent medical staff deems a player too hurt to play, any and all coaches will want any and all players to play, even if they are banged up. That's just sports. I don't believe he was being asked to do something out of the ordinary or to his detriment if even true. Does anyone know what the injury is?

Mike Keith sums it up.

Voice of the Vols Mike Keith joined WNML’s Josh and Swain on Monday and he unsurprisingly offered tremendous perspective on the Boo Carter situation at Tennessee.

“Disappointment,” said Keith when asked for his reaction to Carter’s dismissal from the team. “I mean, disappointment that this has not worked, or that this has worked out the way that it did. In watching [Carter] last year from afar, I thought he was one of the most instinctive defensive players that Tennessee has had in recent years. A guy who certainly could be all-conference caliber — just based on what he does and the fact that he can play one on one defense, and he can play the run. He’s a good tackler.

“And then this hits, obviously, very publicly during the summer. Everyone knows about it. It kind of hangs over everybody all year long. He doesn’t play as well as what he did as a freshman. And yet, there are plays where he makes things happen. And so you understand his capability. It’s just really, really tough to see this happen for the young man, for his family, for his teammates, for Josh Heupel, and everybody involved. But the fact of the matter is, you’ve got to have everybody rowing the boat the same way. You just do. And it doesn’t matter how good somebody is. I mean, he got every chance. This is not a Tennessee problem. This is a him problem. I hope he gets it straight and that it works out for him, because I think he’s an immensely talented young man who has great potential. But at programs like this — and certainly beyond when you go to play on Sunday — that responsibility aspect is always going to be there for you to do what you’re expected to do. And Josh Heupel couldn’t handle it any other way. He gave the young man every chance.”

I guess that's the best he and his momma could come up with...lmao...weak sauce. Nobodies going to buy that mean CJH is forcing players to play hurt while we are living through the age where players have virtually all the leverage and control. Asinine at best.

Well! It is either Georgia or Colorado at this point. That is his two moves.Take it as you want it.
You know damn well Kirby will take this guy in a second and he’ll play well next year, maybe even very well and then he’ll screw that up the following year.

Kirby ain’t got no time for character, he’s trying to win national titles!

I don’t know, John got the chance to talk to him, so I can’t blame him for taking it. He’s a journalist. He’s not saying it’s the case, he’s letting the guy talk. He’s actually doing us a favor and it’s hurting Boo. What Forde, Wolken, that guy in California did (Nico story) was more of a hatchet job as they were saying something was a certain way. Brice doesn’t say it’s true.
That goes along with my theory that Boo is probably mentally handicapped. I believe him when he says he doesn’t understand what happened. Poor kid.. But we’re all spending too much money for any one person to be a distraction.

His momma wants UGA and has for awhile. She mentioned it several times in posts before the season. I really doubt Kirby takes him. The coaching community tends to be pretty tight knit overall, particularly in the SEC where coaches have a lot of overlap between schools. What really happened will get around quick in the SEC coaching circle. Aside from desperate teams like UK, Arky, and maybe USCjr, I would expect most SEC teams to pass on him.

Florida St seems somewhat likely. Colorado for obvious reasons. Miami too, since they take anyone. Louisville always seem to be lurking as well.

He won’t take Boo. He did himself no favors this year with his play on the field. Teams will take problem kids that show tremendous talent. He didn’t do that this year.
