The Tennessee Volunteer Football program as a whole is officially a "used to be" program. As in "They used to be tough."
You know how you watch teams now such as Nebraska and find yourself thinking "What happened? They used to be so strong, and consistently strong at that."
Well, Tennessee football now falls into that category. We used to be real tough. And Neyland used to be a feared stadium. No more folks. We get waxed at home frequently, and almost always in crucial matches. We are that team that used to be good in the nineties but fell apart somewhere along the way.
Don't get me wrong, I still love my VOLS. I will continue to support them, as always. But I am just SO FREAKIN TIRED of all the excuses from the staff and fans alike.
I heard one guy yelling at some Florida fans at the game last night about the Gaffney play, STILL!
Then another yelling about how they won last night over a play call(the roughing the passer play I guess).
GIVE ME A BREAK. I was at the game, watched every play, and we straight up GOT BEAT. The score actually did not even reflect the way Florida controlled that game. All you whiners and excuse makers (this includes Fulmer and the fans),do me a favor and start accepting our losses as what they are. LOSSES!
Handed to us by BETTER FOOTBALL PROGRAMS. Changes need to be made folks. And those who can't see what they are, are the same ones whom refuse to see our program for what it has become.

GO VOLS!

Last night showed what happens when a program has off-the-field issues that result in dismissals, poor recruiting, and poor player development because Tennessee has no depth. Tennessee look like a team that has been on probation......the defense did not play enough people.
The coaches have a tough season ahead of them. They have to get other players ready beacause UGA, LSU and Alabama will have top tier defenses and offenses.

Guess What people. You do don't win the National Championship every year.

What do you want? I hear all these people downing Flumer all the time. What do you want? What had we won before Flumer? Yea, We have had some below average years of late.

I think we are a better team this year than last. Do you? You say we need to get rid of the guy. Well hell. Lets just go fire his ass right now. Is that how you should run a program? The damn guy has better winning percentage than any active coach in the last ten years, and a National Championship.

Is he perfect? Are you perfect? I doubt it.

Where you ready to run Erik Ainge out of town last year to?

We got beat by a better football team than us by one point. Yea, it was at neyland. It happens. I don't like it either. It sucks. But you don't fire a guy who has given his whole life to this progam for a couple of bad years.

Football is about teamwork. A team sticks together when things go bad they don't start pointing fingers everytime something goes wrong. Yea, I bitch and carry on to. But you can't blame Flumer for every bad thing that happens in a ballgame. The guy is a great coach. Look at the numbers. And there is alot of football left to be played this year. Don't quit on this team yet.

SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC titles are all we should be concerned about and we haven't had one since 98. it is going on a decade.

I don't really remember mentioning Fulmer being fired or saying anything related to giving up on the team. If that is what you took out of it, then maybe you have some underlying issues with him that you need to face. Good Luck with that!

Let's not turn this into a Fulmer thread, please!

still doesn't change the fact we haven't won the sec since 98. who gives a crap about playing in the sec championhip game if you don't win it. all those teams you mentioned there besides tennessee had to switch coaches to get back on top except florida who lost spurrier. i rest my case. go from 99 on and check the stats they tell a different tale. can't live in the peyton and tee years forever champ. don't need to whine and cry because people don't see your point of view. facts are your going to have losses it is the way it goes, but not winning the sec since 98 is a terrible reality that no tennessee fan should have to tolerate.

Since 99 we have played in two championship games
2004 , 2001 - we lost both

Georgia has played in two - they won both

LSU has played in two - they won both

Auburn has played in two - they split

Alabama one - won

Florida two - split

This is a tough conference. Look back thru the numbers they don't lie.

LSU is the only team to win a National Championship out of this group in those years. They had one lose.

Last year sucked I admit! I am not whinning about anything I just don't agree. The first post said decade so i put decade. You said 98 so their is the stats from 98'. You want to blame someone because that is all that makes sense to you. You have to win the East to win the SEC don't you? No we have not won the SEC since 98. It's a tough conference. This year is not over. The offense is going to improve. It has improved since 05 right? What do you want? Undefeated? It is the SEC man.

Coaching been good this year IMO. They have a young offensive line and lost a couple of the better players on defense.

Cutcliffe did a great job with Ainge. A couple less injuries and UT beats Florida. That return for a touchdown that got called back was scary. The special teams still need improvement.

They have to get other players ready beacause UGA, LSU and Alabama will have top tier defenses and offenses.

At this point, UGA does not have a top tier offense. They do have a top tier defense.

Alabama has neither a top tier offense nor defense.

LSU is the closest to having both. However, after watching the Auburn game I wouldn't rate their offense any better than ours.

The season is still early. Anything can happen. I am probably going to be flamed (maybe even fired) for this statement, but.....

If the Vols NEVER win another scrimmage, game, or championship I'm still behind them 100%. If they CAN'T win, I'd still rather be a fan of a losing Tennessee team than any other winning program.

My old definition of hell on earth is officially out the window. You have just described hell on earth perfectly. I want off the ride, make it stop!

nope brother, just want to win the sec. it has been so long i can't remember what it was like. i guess i should have said almost a decade my bad. my point was almost all the other teams you mentioned made coaching changes to get back on top. yes we won the sec east twice in that time period, but that means nothing if you don't win the championship game. if we don't we are lucky to go to the orlando bowl or whatever it is called or the peach. peach bowl has been terrible to us.:ermm:

With all due respect, hun, then why don't you just root for a team that can give you what you want and save yourself all this anguish? I'm not trying to start anything, but is football really worth it?

And I am sure you would be skipping through the dandelions if we lost every single game? :p

Tennessee can (and has) been great to me. I don't expect to win every game, but I expect to win most of the ones we should and some of the ones we shouldn't. Anything less would not be UT football.

I do think you missed the sentiment behind my post, though. I really meant it tongue in cheek:)

I didn't skip through the dandelions the year we started 0-6. :)

Seriously, though, I know how you feel. It does seem like forever since we won a big SEC game.
