State of the Program

Every year great players move on and others step in to become great players. It's one of the reasons I prefer college ball over the NFL. I tend to be excited about who's going to step up as opposed to fretting over who's leaving. Just my take on it.

We are doing a lot better than Cincinnati! What we need to do is move UT to the American Athletic Conference!!! Boom! We would win a bunch more games.

Yeah boy. It would like having Ohio States schedule. just saying is all.

I guess your predictions at the end make it all better even thougb there is little to no logic behind them all.

I like the underclassesmen starting numbers, but let me ask you this.
Who starts in place of these guys? Ill list their names and ask you, how starts and how that translates to a better team next year.

Cam Sutton -

Josh Dobbs-

Josh Malone -

Alvin Kamara -

Derek Barnett -

Kenny Bynum -

Malik Foreman -

Corey Vereen -

Jalen Hurd -

Jalen Hurd?? You can't be serious. I don't know anyone with a pulse maybe. He really did a lot for the team this past season
Malik Foreman was slightly better than terrible.
Corey Vareen while talented didn't produce a ton of stats
Kenny Bynum started due to injuries

We all know Barnett, Kamara, and Dobbs will be very difficult to replace but it is almost as if you just looked up a depth and just assumed they were all huge losses. Almost as if you aren't a true fan but just troll the board

Noted that you jump to the good ol not a true fan tactic, yet didnt name a single viable replacement for any one i named, good job sport. Continue kicking your cat to so yourself how much of a man you are

And yeah, Hurd hurt the team last year but acting like he wasnt good while he was playing is foolish.

Well, they played quite a bit of the season without him so why would it be difficult to replace him? I don't know maybe the guy who replaced him during the season, John Kelly? You would know that if you actually watched them play. As far as Malik Foreman goes, why would it be difficult to replace an average at best db? Kenny Bynum started due to injuries and recorded 11 solo tackles, meaning a healthy Kirkland, Sapp, or McDowell would have been just as effective. Taylor, Mixon, Phillips all have the potential to replace Vereen and have some game experience. You would know that UT rotates d-lineman quite regularly as well as linebackers and receivers. Of course Dobbs, Kamara, and Barnett will be difficult to replace. That is not unique to UT or any other team.

Thanks for at least naming people. Doesnt address replacing nearly all of our offensive production. The guys that came in and replaced our injured players got their tails beat by two sec bottom feeders. Not sure how that along with a bunch of people that have never played translates to winning at a high level on the sec.

I don't feel we lack talent. And the point is you never know how it turns out. Plus, no one thought we would win ththe national championship after we didn't do it with Peyton. Don't act like we were given a shot because we had talent. That's stupid.

Most picked UT to go 8-3 in 1998. Unproven QB coming in Tee Martin. Looked like a solid prediction until the last minutes of the Syracuse game. Only real star returning was Jamaal Lewis who ended up injured early in the season in the Auburn game. Good thing there was a sophomore backup named Travis Henry. Never know.

Al Wilson, Peerless Price several others? Cmon man 98 had tons of talent

Nobody knew they were loaded until after the Florida game. Even so, Tee Martin looked pretty mediocre for half the year. Anyway, the point is no one picked them to win the SEC much less a NTL Championship that year. Predictions are just what they are - guesses for entertainment or torture purposes.

They were loaded with talent. Tee Martin looked mediocre all year. True not many picked them, but they had been a top teir team for a while. Tee was a senior QB not a RS Sophomore or freshman and all around the talent was simply better. Not sure how anyone can argue otherwise.

Sure we have talent, but it simply isnt comparable to what we had coming back in 98. Call me stupid all you want, its foolish to think the talent level is comparable. And sure noone knows exactly how its gonna turn out, but you can predict most likely scenerios and that is no where near a championship level team. Lets not act like Manning lead teams were going 8-4 and they won the NC the following year.

Manning did get upset a few times. Memphis comes to mind, but yes he didn't lose 4 a season. My point was Tn has talent to compete for the east. We don't have bama talent and I get that.

Sure, we have the talent to compete for the east. The reason I am skeptical is because he have had the talent to compete for the east the past two seasons. Certainly 16 over 15 but we had the talent to do so in 15 as well. Whether you agree or not, a reasonable argument can be made that we are downgrading talent from 16 to 17, and certain in proven talent.

The state of the program was summed up pretty well on the EA so. A caller called in with a negative view and EA and the sidekick touted holding App St to the fewest yards all season and them not scoring in the second half.......APP ST. Yep, that's where we are at.

Tee was horrible throwing the ball early in the season. But credit Cut for working with him and putting him position to get better and succeed.

2017 must be considered a rebuilding year for the Vols, they simply lost too many contributors from last year to be considered a favorite to win anything in 2017

I can see anything from 5-7 to 7-5 for team 121

I'd love to say the Vols were going to win 10 games, but that won't make it happen....still
Go Vols

Your right it doesent.

But....

When they lack on the development side of coaching you never see the potential. Jones already has a strike for being a terrible game day coach he doesent need a recruiting strike or a development strike.

Other wise he's no better than Captain Smith

I don't agree with D4H everyday, but he's right about Jones squandering a lot of talent.

Hurd was never that good. I think thats part of the reason he left. Jk amd Kamara ran behind the same line he did and tore it up. Cam Suttonwas hurt most of the season so he wont be as hard to replace as you suspect.

Yes we lost some guys but you act as if theres no one there to step up.

Noted again that you didnt list a single replacement for anyone i named.

Hurd may have left on bad terms, but lets not act like he wasnt any good man, cmon. The guy nearly set the all time rushing record in 2.5 seasons. We make this mistake often when players leave on bad terms, most everyone claimed that Rodgers wasnt that good either.

Cam Sutton, Dobbs, the entire OL, Jennings, Malone. I could go on. All of these players have developed in their time here.

The entire OL? Are you kidding, they continued to be bad/the weak link of the team last year. How did 5 star Richmond play, after a redshirt year to "develop". Also, KMac, Bates, the rest of the LBs and all of our corners and safeties say "hi".
