State of Tennessee Wins the Injunction

Would you rather ut watch as the NCAA smacks their ass and takes away everything the football program has worked so hard to get over the last three years. You would rather UT get bent over and lose everything over this outcome?
At this point, it’s pretty obvious that the answer to this is “yes.”

What exactly has UT won? The chance to out-bribe all the other majors for high-school prospects? Good luck with that. Vol fans seem to have deluded themselves into thinking that NIL in recruiting is going to give us some sort of competitive advantage. Seriously? You think Georgia, Bama, OSU, Florida, Michigan and all the rest are going sit around whistling Dixie while we buy a national title team? Ha, ha. A&M just spent $76 million to fire a coach. Every major and their fans are insane, and nobody is getting a competitive advantage. It's a fool's game, a corrupt game, and it will turn high-school prospects into cynical mercenaries.

The judge's ruling is nonsense. His legal point about anti-trust is only relevant because the schools were stupid and opted to drag NIL into recruiting. It wasn't conceived to be used to bribe prospects. Had none of the schools formed collectives and starting throwing money at pimply prospects--half of whom won't even pan out in college--none of this would be an issue.

At the end of the day, it will be a huge waste of money--and there will be a lot of 3rd-string safeties laughing at all the money their making for spending one hour a month walking around a shopping mall and signing 5 autographs. Damn: Everybody thought they'd be good players, but turns out, they weren't.

But if you guys want to cash out your 401K's to try and help our collective sign that tight end from Indiana--who says that if we just boost our bribe by 25 percent, we'll jump into his top 5, well go for it. If it doesn't work out, you'll still have your cars to sleep in.
So go start a thread about all the ways you’d like to tell people how to spend their money. Whatever you fundamentally think of NIL in general, that has nothing to do with the question before the court. You might not like it, but it was a foregone conclusion in the absence of an antitrust exemption.

Take your 50 cents and leave

The judge said in denying the temporary restraining order that the “plaintiffs are likely to win based on the filings” he’d read thus far. The hearing lasted 70 minutes so there was almost no chance that anything occurred in it to change the judges initial statement. He saw the issues from the start & said such.
Everything I heard and read indicated he’d issue a ruling in Tennessee/Virginia’s favor. The NCAA pooped themselves during the hearing and couldn’t answer a basic question. That boded well. I wasn’t referring to this, anyway, I meant as far as the ultimate outcome. I don’t know anyone who thought the NCAA could win even if this hearing went their way.

You woke up and chose to go for that ratio. You did it!

I hope everyone is ready for the death of the AA, the soon to be formed minor league, and subsequent collective bargaining agreement.

There needs to be some common sense regulations so that the league as a whole can move forward together. Hopefully that’s what the SEC/BIG10 coalition is currently working out.

There is no such thing as a common sense regulation.

Some people just can't stand to lose an argument. I would suggest not getting quite so invested in your own opinion.

The Ncaa will be on us like stink on **** to find the least little offense in the future in all sports. We need to stay squeaky clean until the are put out of business, if that happens. It is the DNA for bureaucrats to exact revenge on people who beat or embarrass them.

I agree! You and I are probably going to get scorched for this. But, I agree one hundred percent!

It is insane for teenagers to get promised millions before they step foot on campus or when they play! How do you think coaches feel that are coaching these egomaniac teenagers and making less than they are getting for working much harder than they ever dreamed about working? The NIL is good. But, it needs to be capped at probably $100k a year less than the least amount of money that anyone on the team staff makes! Geez, the players get treated like kings with free clothes, food, education, etc.. Yes, they need money to travel, have fun, and see family members often as they can as well as have a nice vehicle. But, all the free things they receive plus a quarter of a million in 4 years is plenty!!! They don't need nor deserve more than the hard working people on the coaching staffs!!!

I generally agree. The problem with that is twofold.

1. Illegal monopolies.
2. The NCAA is private. We see what a great job they did. (sarcasm) 😁😁
The aa lacked the foresight to regulate NIL. They leaned on the Federal Government to do their job for them. They had their chance and blew it. that’s why abolishing the AA and starting a new G5 league with rules, contracts, CBA, etc is the best way to bring all this crap back under control. I think it happens sooner than later.
