State of recruiting (split)

You guys aren't pleased with the kids interested in the Vols for 17? I thought things were going pretty good so far. UT may be offering some three star kids but they are getting a lot of offers from other big programs as well. Seems like more so than I can remember in recent history. There's a lot of big fish still out there. Some are interested in the Vols. Why torture yourself with negativity? You know how CBJ closes on recruits.

They can't help themselves.

They would rather be pessimistic and possibly right than optimistic and possibly wrong.

Don't post often but I'll throw my 2 cents in here. Coach Jones seems tot have big time
commits declare at strategic moments. The first couple of classes every 5* commit was building momentum and changing the perception about Tennessee.

Then those big time commits started coming at strategic moments when the fan base was feeling the blues and needed pumping up.
I'm sure he has some guys in a holding pattern now, just waiting for the right moment.

I see the current situation as all is well on the Hill and everything is firing on all cylinders.

But like I said, just my two pennies. Not worried one bit.

There are two simple keys to this class, winning and showing a competent downfield passing game.

Also agree.

I'll add that if there were one coach in the SEC that Nick "The Process" Saban would like to see go away, it's Butch Jones.

This year is gonna be a fun one, gentlemen.

I hear from Clemson fans down here their coaches are taking advantage of the law suit (i.e. telling the recruits Butch jones won't be around for their 4 years due to the law suit allegations) and the no NFL draft picks (zero the last two years) to negative recruit TN. They are confident in going head to head against us for a number of recruits important to the 17 cycle. I am sure the same is true with CKS at UGA.

The other factors are we have transitioned out of being able to sell playing time. But we haven't yet made enough progress in winning championships to sell that instead. So the message is blurred. We need to have something to sell. Winning, plus getting some players drafted, and getting rid of that lawsuit will all help.

What Championship other than 13th grade division(ACC) has Clemson won?

Dooley would have had success in that conference

I believe it and if Clemson and Georgia are doing it, so is every other school these recruits are visiting. All the recruits are probably hearing the same everywhere they visit. It has to have a negative effect.

These kids are doing the same thing we're doing, waiting to see if we are for real this year. We can't offer early playing time and we haven't shown that we can win in the SEC. We need to put up or shut up this season and recruiting will take care of itself. If we come out of the gates weak, and dropped another game to Florida, our recruiting this season will be toast. While I think that Butch has done a pretty dadgum good job at recruiting and building the program, he really does have this year to push us over the hump. If he can't get us to the SEC Championship this year, it could be three or four more years before we have that opportunity again. If we don't make it there that means Kirby Smart has pulled a rabbit out of his hat in Georgia just like Florida did last year or else Florida is showing some staying power with their new coach.

Seriously. The thought of this guy celebrating a UT championship makes me cringe. I think I need to join the Legion of D4H ignore. But I've never put anyone on here on ignore. Always feel like I should stay open to all opinion and chatter. But this guy. Puke.

I know a lot of guys don't care much for me now, because I have expressed the opinion that this seasons recruiting is disappointing so far. (the first time I have ever really been negative about a class as a whole) But at least I am a Vol when we are up, and when we are down. I'm just sick of bad news, bad seasons and bad breaks. Fair-weather fans make me want to puke.

I am going to take GFW's word that we are going to be happy with this class.
As far as the rest of it goes, you are ok by me. Just take a breath before you hit submit. Sometimes I end up not hitting submit.

Did you follow recruiting back with Coach Fulmer? Tennessee always started lethargic and awful, but ended with a bang. Got updates by snail mail back then, so no instant gratification. It was not as intense because you just knew that the recruits would sign with Tennessee. Not if, but when.

Listening to the Clemson fans on Tiger Net, is down right comical! They really didn't like Higgins top 5 this week with the Vols on top. They seem to think that Higgins is a lock to Clemson. I thought Bama fans were bad, until I seen and heard Tiger fans. They really believe that Clemson is far and above the way better program than TN. What a joke!

Behind EVERYBODY and DeBord is an old swim coach who will get Butch fired. :scare:

What is different this year is that we have a sexual lawsuit filed against us that opposing coaches are using to steer recruits away from UT. Just saying...:hi:
