Pruitt will not be fired. Period.

1. This program is going through extreme financial hardship. You have your head buried in the sand if you can’t put that together. The program itself is forced to have reduced ticket sales, concessions, etc after stadium renovations and paying off a few Ex coaches.

Timing sucks

2. The AD sure as heck ain’t gonna dismiss a coach 3 years in. Year 1, he inherited Butch Jones Team. Year 2, he sprinkled in some freshman. Year 3, he has a sophomore and freshman base.

Now...tell me about all the great teams that Fulmer outfit with freshman and sophomore. I’m waiting.

3. Pruitt is a players coach. The guy coaches football. He sells the steak, not the sizzle. The guy stands with his players in their community stances. As long as Pruitt is building a team and a culture, he won’t be on a short leash.

You can be pissed about a lot of things. I’m personally confused by timid play calling. I’m confused as to where our leaders are (I see #11 on D and #73 on O, that’s it). Now, #2 on D has been MIA and he’s been a leader as well.

You might have divide because you have MORE TALENTED youngsters who don’t have the KNOWLEDGE of upper class man.

Football requires iterating. Iterating week to week. Iterating at halftime - which we suck at right now.

Pruitt will be back. I think Jim Chaney will be back. I think Chris Weinke is at right. The state of our backup QB is truly puzzling.

The future is Bailey. Time to release the Hound.

Posting a new thread drooling over every other coach is rather pathetic. Confirms my theory that not everyone should have internet access.

In before username checks out.

In before Millenials start whining about instant gratification like they are owed something for watching football on Saturdays

In before any other couch sitting fan decides to trash a team when they probably spend their life avoiding adversity so they can’t be criticized.

The loudest group of y’all are Pathetic

Extreme financial hardship.... I quit reading there. I do not think you understand who the super booster of this program are. We are a top 10 all tie football school and basically have unlimited resources.... Vol navy, Vol air force, Vol army. Hell, we even hold a strategic part of the Tennessee river itself. Yes, thing have been tough for a while but, tough times do not last, tough people do.

Please, my friend, this is the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

1. I think you mean it requires reiterating.
2. he actually has 3 recruiting classes so he has majority of his guys and most of them he has coached 2-3 years including the qb position.
3. Don’t bash a fan base if you’re just going to misconstrue facts to form your own opinion... you’re the one with your head in the sand.
4. When the majority of the roster is your guys and that’s the performance you put out people can justly question the ability of a head coach to perform the duties required of the job.
5. Suck it

That’s your opinion. Didn’t realize opinions weren’t allowed on message boards unless you agree with them. Also, explain how in year 3 Pruitt is getting out coached after halftime against a first time head coach with far less talent than we have. That should be a good indicator that something is very wrong. Also funny that you bring up instant gratification, as if we haven’t been a joke for the past 15 years. “Those dang millennials, they aren’t willing to watch the administration screw up hire after hire while our rivals go out and hit home run hires!”

You know I made excuses for Pruitt after the Georgia State game. We’re in year three and still losing to teams with less talent than us. I don’t think most rational fans expected to compete with Bama, Georgia, or Florida right out the gate. That said getting the hell kicked out of you by Kentucky and Arkansas is a little much in year 3.

Jimmy haslam is worth 2.9 billion and wouldn’t realize the 12 million missing in the buyout even in this year and there are multiple millionaires on the board. Yet this dingy thinks the university itself pays the buyout.

I thought our backups looked bad, period. Unfortunately it appears JG is the best QB we have and that's a scary thought. I'm starting to think the Salters kid is gonna have a real shot at winning the job next year based on any ability to run. Aside from a Manning or Trask type QB, a running QB is about our only hope.

Disagree, Bailey took the check down. It’s not his fault the check down route wasn’t towards the sideline to conserve clock. I remember JG being giving the check down against Kentucky which he took for all of 3 throws and started getting greedy and threw terrible picks. Bailey also threw a dart downfield and on time that JG has yet to prove he can make. The end zone int wasn’t a big deal. Down two scores with seven seconds he tried to make something out of nothing.

I don't recall the boosters paying any other buyouts for the former coaches fired. If you have that information please share it.

HB looked good Saturday. Neither interceptions were bad throws on his part. Don’t know what you were watching regarding Bailey. Maurer is a little questionable Saturday but he may turn out to be better than JG also. JG needs to sit and be relief. HB needs to start. Then we will know for sure after a game or two if HB can be the Qb we had hoped for.

New York Times article in 2005 insinuates it.
That said nothing about boosters paying buyouts
Call Basilio or Swain... they can probably tell you more. But with how much money the boosters throw around common sense dictates they carry the lions share of the financial responsibility for the hiring and firing (which includes the buyout).

So if the boosters pay the buyout and it's that easy why was the university of Tennessee paying Butch Jones for several years?

Well, when the contract was written up just as a fictitious example. Let’s say you hire coach a for 4 years and 3 mill per year.. the boosters agree to pay 70% and the university pays 30% then I would imagine the boosters probably could pay off their portion but the university is probably locked in for the remainder of what they owe for the period of time until it’s complete. Obviously I would have to see the language the contract was written in.

I don't believe you fully understand how things work to be honest i don't either but to think that boosters just right a blank check to fire coaches is a stretch. Tennessee has fired two football coaches, several basketball coaches, and this season lost millions of dollars due to covid19. On top of all of that they just gave Pruitt a extension and raise less than a month ago. He will not be fired this season no matter how bad it gets.

If the boosters get to say who’s hired and fired the university isn’t going to cover 100% of the financial responsibilities. That’s just malpractice of the most extreme and I would seriously question intelligence of the administration.

I’m not saying they do write blank checks. I don’t think you comprehend the part where finances are there to do it but I think they hold off this year to cut down on the buyout. Utah St. just fired their coach. They were intelligent enough not to give a contract renewal and owe only 2.7 million after the 0-3 start.

He loses out this year with only beating vandy maybe he will get a short leash next year. Blowout loss after 4 recruiting classes and he gets yanked. Tennessee can’t afford to give Pruitt that time and let Kentucky or Missouri get better while we hope Pruitt finds the fountain of coaching.
