In 8 full seasons in Starkville, he's had a five win, a six win, 2 seven win, and one 8 win season. how will it go over at Tennessee to have five out of eight seasons at eight wins or less?

We just did that from 2008-2014....

Fuente or Mullen for me. If he can compete in the west he will do well in the east. I think he is one of the great offensive minds in the country. It will be much easier to recruit in Knoxville that it is in Starksville.

of Dan Mullen in Knoxville.

* HC of an SEC school, "gets it".
* Has had above average success there.

Thoughts?

We could certainly hire a hell of a lot worse! He won the west and I don't think they've been in top 20 recruiting in forever. Imagine what he could do with top 5 classes?

If he's available then YES!

Actually, he's never won the west. He averages 6.5 wins per year but he might do better here.

I’m ok with Dan Mullen as coach because he has gotten more out of inferior talent and is good at developing quarterbacks, while Butch consistently does less with superior talent and sucks at developing quarterbacks.

Also, considering how he’s had moderate success in the West at a no name school, the East would probably seem like a cakewalk to him.

Pay him 6 million a year.

At Tennessee he is a 10 win a season at the MINIMUM.
- Division competition
- Superior coaching

He knows Xs and Os and does a fantastic job of developing QBs.

He'll get a defensive CO.

With our recruiting grounds and Tennessee traditions/culture. And his control over football.

Tennessee could become Florida 2005-2008 all over again.

Except Mullen isn't bolting after building a legit powerhouse.

Tennessee would consistently be a top 10 program again.

Ask yourselves this question.

HOW WOULD URBAN MEYER DO AT MISISSIPPI STATE???

Maybe the reason he has never left State is the cowbells have deafen him to the point he can't hear his phone ringing with opportunities.

Dan Mullen can coach. He can develope players from a no name unwanted recruit to a Prescott or Fitzgerald type player. He has the ability to see qualities in the players that are not on the radar of most but yet improves their play once they get to campus. His system fosters improvement, development, and depth on both sides of the ball. He has competed and ran a football program on less talent, less budget, and football resources. He’s made MSU respectable and at times great. He had MSU ranked no.1 in the country a few years ago. His system works, his mentality works, and players buy in to his schemes. All that to say this, he will win big in Knoxville. The game nor the stage is too big for him. He’s been there and done that.

Gruden would be nice but as of late it’s sounding more and more that Gruden is not going to happen. When reality hits and IF because I’m starting to wonder Butch being fired, UT will have to find a replacement. All obvious I know but easier said than done. Meanwhile we all sit and wait....and wait.

Mullen would be a solid hire. Good enough coach to win east.
Couple problems with Mullen.

1. He is the definition of mediocrity in the SEC west.
(Currie dragging his feet on firing Butch has made Tennessee a national joke. Can Tennessee afford such a mediocre hire?) this is perception based
2. Would Tennessee (Currie) actually pay the $$ needed for Mullen. This is looking VERY DOUBTFUL.

Mullen is definitely needs to be on a very short list. I just think Mullen lacks drive to be the best in his lack of wanting to recruit & his happiness at a place like Starkville.

But could bring an SEC level of at least respect from piers back to Tennessee.

Two things, only crazy a$$ fans that have not one ounce of Football IQ think Mullen is Mediocre and equal to Butch.

Second, Mullen's buyout is not publicly known. So while he has a big contract, his buyout could be very low. I for one am very interested on the details of his current contract regarding his buyout as its hasn't been disclosed to the public for the past year.

No man compared to Butch, Mullen has won 3 Super Bowls, 4 NC titles, and Nathan's hot dog eating championship in a 5 year span.

Mullen just has not shown any drive or desire to become better in a long time at MSU.

Seems happy just plugging along getting rich in a low stress setting.

Hey also at this point in Tennessee. Mullen would be a massive upgrade and like I said at very least would bring some stability.

I'd be happy with the hire. Just saying some major red flags on lack of drive to become the best.

Because he was waiting out the UGA job. Why do you think he turned down Florida' advances twice? Even though, he would have walked back to a team with half of the roster being recruits from his time as OC there.

Why do you think he told Penn State down?

He made it known that UGA was his dream job and he was content to wait it out to see if he could get. If Kirby said no, Mullen likely gets that job.

Regardless, he had no incentive to leave before 2015 as he had Dak's junior year and #1 season in 14 and then he had no reason to return to Florida for rebuild when he had Dak coming back for his Senior year.

And once again, you are sniffing too much glue if you think there isn't a wide difference in the body of work between Butch and Mullen.
