Starting to hit reality

Let’s be honest..
The reality is that we probably were going to lose to Georgia and Bama. That reality came true. What burned us, was that we didn’t expect to lose to KY.. and the way we lost really put us in the fryer.
Yeah, but you see we didn't have as much practice time as KY due to Covid, thus slowing us way down in developing a new QB, and so on and so forth. Also, Cade Mays was not given enough time to practice since the NCAA took so long in declaring him eligible, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.

It’s true, we have lost 1 more game than was expected. However, did it have to be to KY? That hurts as a Vol fan. KY is the team that plays us tough but we always find that little bit extra to beat them.

The standard at TN used to be lose to no one but FL in the East and those were always hard fought contests. Losing to Vandy and KY we unimaginable. I used to feel like the world was crashing in if we lost 2 games. Now I have endured 8 losses in a season. Losing streaks to Vandy. Having to hear how my co-workers 13 daughter (who is a BAMA fan) has never lost to TN in her lifetime.

What can we do to get back to our rightful place? Clemson is stealing our recruits from Knoxville and winning with a generational talent that was a childhood Vol fan. Just cmon Vols broken clock is right twice a day.

And Pruitt wasn’t wearing his mask properly either.......

That’s the point I’m making. Everyone is getting crazy and wanting to blame coaches and QBs and whoever. If we lose the same way we did to KY moving forward NOW, then fans have a case.

Reality is that we shouldn’t have played a QB that simply cost us the GA and Ky games with a ridiculous amount of TOs that were 100% his fault.

JG is at fault as well as Pruitt for refusing to put him on the bench for good

Terrible oversimplification. It’s not just Kentucky. We have looked mediocre, at best, this season. At worst, we look like a team that Jones and Dooley would hang 50 pts on. The reality is that we suck at football. Time to get ready for a dog fight with a team with less talent and first year head coach, after a bye week.

Pretty much the same each year by the UF game. Covid shuffled the deck, but the annual slap back to reality always comes.

So a 1 game difference and people are freaking out?

And it isn't like sweeping decent usc, mizzou, and uk was close to a given.

Lost that game they shouldn't have. It was going to happen with practically no offense and Charmin soft Defense. The SEC is competitive anymore. The days of 2 or 3 teams being the only ones you have to show up for are long gone. Tennessee needs to find some answers in this two weeks or the back half of the schedule won't be much better.

The Kentucky loss is more upsetting because the team gave up. Bad breaks had us down at the half. But we had dominated almost everything else in the game. But the team didn't come out after halfitme. All they had to do was try and I think they win the game in the second half but they decided they were beat.

We are a middle of the Pack SEC squad with talent that is better than what we're playing.
B.Johnson, Hyatt, and Palmer are good WRs. Johnson got blasted in the Georgia game and still made the catch. He then got up was all fired up, and never received another pass WTF! Guy is a beast.
Wake me up when we have a new staff.

Absolutely, but I also think many fans (rightfully) believed we should be in a position in year three to be at least competitive with our top rivals. Yet, the catastrophic blowouts continue.

That is the problem. No sense of closing the gap against the teams that matter.

We all recognize it, the Death Spiral has started again and the Vols are 2 to 3 years away from another coaching search that will end with another "up and coming" coach who is not ready for coaching at this level.

The spiral begins with uninspired play by mediocre talented players that results in blow out losses to top ranked teams and other losses to lesser talented teams , continues with players quitting literally and figuratively and asst coaches getting fired. Hubbs is already predicting the negative effect on recruiting and the cycle will soon begin again with Pruitt out and another press conference announcing how this is a great young coach with a bright future......

Everybody quickly forgets it was a Henry TooToo touchdown that won the game for us against Mizzou. Our offense kept them in the game until the end. I quietly knew we were in trouble and we were 2-0 after Mizzou. My fears have been borne out, we have an inept offense, that screws our defense. Our defense can and has risen to the occasion when our offense gives them the slightest hope of competency.

One game season now. Final game, at Neyland, leave it all on the field Dec. 5th! Win that one and end on a high note. Going to be fun to watch!! (Post Nited).

This team has no identity. JG while is a great kid and gives it his all he is just not a leader. You have to have a leader at the QB position. While yes the defense has to have its leader. The team leader at the end of the day falls on the QB.

It does not matter which side of the ball it is everything that means anything on the field starts and stops with your field general.
Take last season for example: When Maurer came in everyone got a spark, he made plays, and held folks accountable.
When the switch was made back to JG the team went flat and had absolutely no since of urgency what so ever.
Tennessee has to find that guy if we dont have any in the QB room.
