I've seen where a CBS writer and others have the Dawgs winning the East.
While I think UT loses to them (after a huge emotional win vs UF and the Volunteer way is lose to new coach and QB) I keep thinking about why they have been thought of as having a really good season.
Brand new coach, fresh QB, uncertainty at RB, not exactly playmakers on the outside, and a defense that wasnt good at all last year.
The way it ties into UT is that I can see writers who have a hard time trusting the Vols to win the East... But how can they trust UGA? I would trust the Gators before them.

I think Georgia will be one of those teams that's got loads of talent and can end up beating a very good team one week but may get beat by somebody they have no biz losing to the next. Dangerous but not consistant.

I'm sure I'm alone in this but I think a lot of ppl are underestimating Florida this year...again. They lost some good talent but CJM is great with QB's, their Oline will def be better than last year and now they have their best WR back. Of course their D will prob be top 5 in the SEC.

The Vols are gona have it to do to beat the Gators this year and Georgia on the road is gona be tough too. I think UT has the least questions and the most experienced talent so I do think we win the East but I see lots of fans writing Fl and Ga off like we done beat em. Matter of fact not only beat but like they know we will destroy Fl.

I've watched that game a lot of years and a boat race ain't likely. Out of the big 3 SECe teams Id say the team with the best D wins the East. Prob be between UT and UF in that case. Hopefully Shoop will be the diff maker.

They don't have a QB yet. Two old bums and one true freshman. The young one is not exactly an Aeronautical Engineering major. Plus Chubb is still iffy. Another year out for UGA.

But, they may still be better than the gators. Think Michigan 41 Florida 7 earlier this year.

Just curious what you are basing the highlighted comment on. They did out rank us in rushing defense, passing defense, total defense, and scoring defense - against all opponents, against conference opponents, and against FBS winning opponents. They only lost to Bama, FL, and us. So just curious why you don't think they had one of the better defenses in the conference last year?

I don't think Georgia is going to be very good. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I just don't believe Smart will turn out to be a good head coach.

I agree that Smart is unproven but GA is a very talented team. Last year they entered the season as a playoff contender and their game against Bama was hyped beyond belief. Bama made them look bad and the game was played in horrid conditions. I think they got demoralized after the Bama game and if that wasn't bad enough, the very first offensive play against us in their next game they lose the heart and soul of their offense. Last year the notion that Richt lost control of GA was not just a punch line. I think Kirby at least brings new energy and a new perspective. In my view, this could be our toughest game ranking just behind our matchup with LSU in Atlanta. :hi:

I think I heard on SECN a couple of days ago that UGA went 4 games without scoring an offensive TD...did that really happen??

After us they had a 4 game straight streak where they were unable to score a single touchdown. Let that steady your clacking knees for a moment.

No. They went 2 games, back to back, MO & FL, without scoring a TD. They really had no offensive backup plan last year. It was Chubb or bust. Bust won. It would be like us losing Hurd or Kamara. We'd still have one good back but I think our guys are better together than if there was only one to carry the load. I'm not convinced our passing attack could pick up the slack and obviously last year neither was Georgia's. We were #9 in passing last year. They ended up as #10. lol

I thought that was Missouri

Don't recall exact details, but I watched Missouri at Georgia in a night game. I ended 9-6 or something. Both were very bad on offense.

Before we decide who is going to finish second, we need to review that Florida effort on Jan 1, 2016:

No reason not to think Ga and Fl will be solid teams. New QBs and new Coaches are both our Kryptonite, but 2016 isn't about our opponents, it all about the Vols. Team 120 is on a mission to be great, how great is the real question. Trap games or an emotional let down ain't gonna happen. They won't relax and the wins, they will keep stacking.

Sony Michel had a great year, Richt and the UGA staff had Chubb behind him on depth chart Chubb's freshman year. Sony to this day has skills Chubb has not been able to show consistently. Michel was not UGA's offensive trouble, their OL quit on them.

I should have worded that sentence differently. I didn't mean they weren't good at all. But you say they were better than our defense... As if our defense was anything special?
I know they had bad offensive problems but Alabama and UT had their way with them, and that terrible Florida offense put up 27 (altho I can't remember if any of that was defensive or ST).
Point is there was no reason that defense should have been exposed against those 3 teams but they didn't look very good IMHO. Smart isn't going to all of a sudden turn them into something great, which is what they need to outlast UT and Florida. If there offense struggles again they have yo be as good as Florida last year to win the East... Which they aren't at all.
