Starting RB

the good news is he's still young....and if the OL does get better, he could still be very good......bottom line, i don't worry about the RB positon too much with who we have....

Hardesty's knee injury was bad. It usually takes 2 years to get full strength back. So this year will tell you how good he'll be IMO

Hardesty was a huge disappointment for me. I thought this kid was going to have a unbelieveable year after that run against Cal

He was coming off a huge knee injury. It definitely takes a year to heal those injuries 100% AND to regain the confidence in the knee.

Hardesty should and will have productive 2007 and 2008 campaigns.

I've seen flashes of greatness from Hardesty. I wish he'd figure himself out. He seems uncertain every time he runs the ball.

I think he was uncertain due to his knee healing. We've all seen it happen to players - they return from a serious injury and have a mediocre season. Then, as they get back to 100% confidence, they play well.

It's tough. It also depends on the formations we use. We used alot of HB stuff this past year. With young WRs, we may use less 3 wide stuff and more 2 back stuff. We tried to work 2 and sometimes all 3 onto the field at the same time during spring.

3 TEs formations?

I don't think we have a go-to guy back there, just a couple of very good RBs who offer different things to the team.

Sounds to me more like we dont have a back that is good enough to seperate himself from the pack.

O, I think we will see it, but it won't be 3 down TEs. If we do, it will be 2 of Brown, Holbert, the Cottams, and Stocker at TE and 1 as a HB. I don't see 3 down TEs unless it is goalline.

i think we will start foster at cal, and both will get about equal carries, then coker will start the rest of the season

i could see that happening.. I think that Foster's spring could earn him that starting spot but once they hit the real game field everyone will notice that Coker is the man.. and so he will start from there on out..

I'm really excited about the potential and talent we have in the backfield. I would like to run a 2 or even 3 back set consistently...talk about keeping the defense off guard. I think foster and coker are dangerous enough out of the backfield to catch and make this an effective set. I think Hardesty is gonna be a beast, too...we'll have trouble getting them all the carries they deserve :good!:

I was really pleased to hear Foster's comments regarding his off-season progress. Combine that with Coker's game-breaking ability, and I sense a little of that traditional 1-2 punch that has really been a signature of the UT run game over the years.

Now, a little work on the OL. . . .

i would love to see coker and foster sharing the carries. coker is a game breaker and foster has some speed.. just cant wait for the season to start...

This is a wide open position.. Some feel that Foster had a great spring, so the starting position is his to loose, and others feel that the starting role is Coker's as long as he doesnt mess it up with schoolwork again..
I personally think Coker will start at Cal but they will be a huge one-two punch with foster getting about equal amount of carries..
Hardesty could be a huge contributer too.. but i dont see him starting..

I still think the starting position is Coker's to lose. He's got that extra step that Foster doesn't quite have.

This is an easy answer, Coker is the starting RB, and Foster-N-Hardesty are our 3rd down backs. Coker is clearly our most explosive and talented back. He has good vision, speed, and OH YEAH --he holds on to the BALL.

coker is still in CPF's dog house if memory serves, and he'll have to get out of that before he becomes the no. 1 on the depth chart.

that said, he'll get plenty of carries this year......

Coker 1,000 yards rushing mark it down. We need to hit teams with a screen to Coker, at unsuspecting times, this will let Coker utilize his speed and vision. Throwing a screen to a Reggie Bush type player will produce points, but we need a coaching staff that has a clue how to utilize their talent. I have been hearing rumors of Cutcliffe, planning his offense around Coker, because of Coker being a Reggie Bush type of RB.

dont' take this the wrong way.......

now there's some excellent analysis right there......as opposed to telling the other team when we would run that play.......:eek:lol:

I have nothing but faith in Cutcliffe, the guy knows what he is doing. And i know it seems negative of me, to question how to use our talent, but until i see it i won't believe it.

i think we started to see it last year some.....coker obvioulsly impressed many last season....i have no doubt that he will be even more involved this year. mentions of using him int he slot as well as out of the back feild have already been made, and we've all heard the two TE's we have on roster right now will be more involved....if the WR's can develop and live up to the talent they supposedly have, the offense from a skill position standpoint could be good. still though, questions remain at WR and across the o line....the qb, rb and te though should be set.

Great point but Foster tried to stretch things to the sidelines when he shouldn't have.

I always thought Hardesty tended to dance around ... or fight to the outside when he should have just busted it up the gut. I felt like he continually had visions of his Cal run floating in his head...I hope it was just due to his recovery from his injury.....

Agreed. I've said numerous times he juked his feet out from under him.
