Starting RB next season

Does anybody know if we're pursuing I'Tavius Mathers from Murfreesboro Blackman? He has a verbal to Ole Miss but with Nutt out, maybe he can be swayed. He's the next coming of Rod Wilks (did I really just type that?).

I think we are interested but he is not. That is where we stand. More details over in the recruiting forum.

Rod will hunt you down! When you hear that slight little noise tonight at 4:00 am, it is Rod coming in to get ya.

It's Lane's job to lose. Regardless of how Spring practice goes, I'd bank on (a healthy) Lane starting against NC State. Whether he can hold onto the job will remain to be seen.

Rod strikes at 13 o' clock.

Neal is not going back to RB. Dooley has already said that. He loves him at the position he's at now.

When Neal moved to RB there was more need after Hunter went down. With the WR class coming in, there's more of a need at RB now. Lane has been hurt in the past, and Toney is a little undersized and Smith hasn't had many snaps.

I don't think it's out of the range of possibilities Neal would move back to RB if UT doesn't land a big RB recruit like Davis. :twocents:

Since we all know who the starting two wide outs are next year and most probably the O-Line... all we need to do is either put Lane back there with Neal as the slot/screen guy.... have rivera as tight and we'd be set to go...lets work on the other side of the ball now fellas...

I can't believe how some of yall are throwing Lane under the bus after only one year playing college ball. I think he can get it done for us next year. With that said, we need another premiere back to go along with him. A lot of teams have two stud running backs to help share the load these days. With another year under the Olines belt, and the addition of Jay Graham, I think our running game will improve alot next year. Go Vols!

I'm kind of curious why Lane didn't play more this season?
Was his knee bothering him? Why didn't see any more of Smith?
Poole did not play well, I thought he could have been passed on the depth chart.

Keeping Neal at WR would really be ideal IMO. He's great in space. We would really benefit from another playmaker at RB. With the team and recruiting class we have right now I'm not sure. May have to add another guy. JMO

Wrong. Neal needs to be the speed RB. If you want a man in space, Pig is the man.

Hardesty isn't exactly the best example...I am pretty sure he would have beat out Foster every year he was here if healthy...wasn't a talent issue. (See his TD run against Cal)

Hardesty is a terrible example. He played in front of Foster in 2005 until he tore his knee up against Ole Miss.

Davis gave a verbal to USCarolina.
I'm wondering if they won't ask Neal to move back to RB now.

Now that the recruiting class has been signed, not sure who is going to be the starter.
