Starting RB next season

Lane, he is the most well rounded. But you are correct, a stud like Davis could come in from day one and compete. With the emphasis being on improving our run game and the hiring of Graham, I fully expect the running game to be much better next year.

Good opportunity for a freshmen coming, if UT could possibly land Mike Davis (#95 rivals top 100) would really help. Who do you expect to start? Lane looked good at times. Toney is a little undersized, Smith is in the mix.

not many options. has to be Lane. msot experience. current committed players sure won't displace him

Lane will be the starter but Hill is an EE, that should help his chances of PT next fall. He's the big bruiser back we need, 6'2" 220lbs and runs a 4.5-4.6. No doubt we land either Davis, Pender, Bourque or some other bigtime RB in this class to go along with Hill and Watson. Probably end up with 4 RB's this class. Having Jay Graham on staff already out recruiting is going to pay off soon. JMO

I agree with you, but him being injured last season is kind of worrisome. He was injured in high school as well.

It will be lane or neal. No One else will be close. How many times do we have to go through this... Freshmen should not be starting for Ut. It's a bad thing if they are. Hell, hardesty, graham, Stephens, Lewis, Henry, foster, houston all needed time. Lane could be a phenomenal back. So could neal....

I just hate reading the thousands of posters that can't wait for freshmen to come in and take the reigns... Heck, the result of 4 and 5 star freshmen on the field is a 5 and 7 season.

For the most part, I agree with you. But tailback is one spot where a true freshman can step right in....I can list you about one gazillon examples...from this year, Crowell at Georgia...from 30 years ago, Herschal Walker at Georgia

So Jamaal Lewis and Eric Ainge and Peyton Manning should have been benched as a freshmen? I don't buy it.

I may be wrong but R. Neal is the fastest player on the team...I think if we had a good coach he would be fine moving to RB...he seem to be able to play faster at the end of the season..

I don't think you count on a freshman to carry the load for an entire season. They may get a start from time to time but their are real durability and adjustment issues. Isn't that what we saw with freshmen backs at UGA and LSU?

Right now I see Lane being the starter. Believe Neal found a home with WRs.

Lane or Neal. Just hope Lane stays healthy and Neal clears up that case of fumblitis he displayed.

Though your examples are terrible, I didn't say that once in every 5 years or so a legitimate players comes in ready to compete. More so, I am.saying that this board writes off players if they aren't immediate studs and then puts the same expectations on the next class of freshmen.

And that it's stupid to repeat that mistake over and over.

If freshmen are starting, it 999 times out of a thousand, it is a bad sign
