Faison Brandon for me
Why do you think a 17-year-old high school QB could make us successful going through a 9 game SEC schedule? I believe we will be in big trouble if we start a freshman. That only works if you have a roster full of 4 and 5 star players on both sides of the ball.

The dude looks like a baller against high school competition, but almost all high school teams just have a hand full of players moving on to D1 football. Don't get me wrong, I really like Brandon but I like GMac too.

FAIZON is on campus, will participate in spring and summer practices. He'll be 6'4" /220 by the time the season starts and could very well be the best QB since Peyton/Tee or Hendon. Fact is I don't know and neither do you. But at some point next year he will start. Go look at his film. Throws an accurate deep ball with air under it unlike pineapple UCLA boy, he can wing it and zing it. See's the field -has a high football IQ and is fairly fast. We need a QB that is 2 dimensional and a serious threat to take off.

Ty Simpson could play another year for Ala. He’s an excellent QB and apparently Bama is ready to move on from him and play a younger player next year. Why is it so hard for people to look at Joey and accept Tenn May have better talent waiting in the wings. Simpson had no running game and led Ala to the 2nd rd of the playoffs. Im thankful for Joey’s time here but he’s had 4 years and has probably reached his peak. Going 4-4 allows me to think we have just as good if not better options awaiting. Apparently if Bama is not willing to pay Simpson, they think they do to.

My understanding is that Ty Simpson was the one who made the decision to move on. Alabama had no choice.

I’m fine with Joey if Heupel will give in some reps when they are up 3 TD. Crazy to never let a backup get some meaningful snaps. How are they ever going to get experience.

Very few teams are able to get their backups any meaningful reps in important games unless the starter gets hurt.

Really not sure why so many harp on that.

That tells me they weren’t going to pony up millions to keep him. They think their bench has talent that can replace him, or very possibly, Maybe he’s just tired of college.

If Bama didn't pony up, another school would have...

I’m in agreement. I believe Joey was an excellent stop gap at an important time and filed that role not only well but, better than the QB he replaced. However, there is no more upside for him. Not sure if we have anyone better on the roster but I think we need to chance it to be better.

i really hope Joey comes back, but if CJH sees GMAC is the better option to start, I’m good with having Joey as #2.
They aren’t endorsing Joey to go after the NCAA to be a backup. If Joey is back, Mac might as well get his agent looking around because it’s Faizon as the future.

I think some of us are jumping the gun in the natural QB development dept. If Nico didn’t transfer he would be going into his 3rd year as the starter and GMac would be the backup. So what’s the difference with JA?? The process for GMac should be 3rd string in his 1st year, win the backup job year 2, year 3 start. If you put up big numbers go to the draft if not still have 2 more seasons. And the same process for Faizon.

I think at the time Nico was signed was that he was so good he would be in this years draft and Merk/GMac would be the guy going into '26

That "stop gap" threw for the 4th most passing yards in school history with about 120 days on campus before the season started and almost no time at official practice.

Having the worst defense in the SEC is why we didn't make the playoff last year. Not Joey Aguilar.

I always thought that the plan would be for Nico to go after his RS JR season which would be this upcoming season. The reason I believe this was the plan is because they didn’t start him from day 1. That tells me no matter how talented they thought he was they still knew he needed development.

It appears to me in the CJH era that he has a preference for older QB’s. He will play the upperclassman. Merk got his opportunity after waiting his turn and he let JA beat him out. GMac will get the same exact opportunity next year and Faizon should go through the exact same process.

Year 1 is a redshirt year and should be getting their body prepared for SEC football, year 2 should be clear QB2. That means they have full grasp of the offense. Year 3 they are ready to go and still have 2 years of eligibility after. This is what QB development typically looks like. The only way the process is accelerated is if your QB room sucks.

And of course u can always keep them out the portal if you bring the check book.
