Starting QB for next year?

I said year three is make or break... Not that the world ended after it. The team will be expected to be better year 4 and 5 as well. Most fans expect us to be in it for the SEC east year 5, if we continue to progress... That would be Dobbs senior year, with QD and JJ as redshirt Sophs.

Ok let's try this another way.
I have a good friend whose son is a freshman playing at mtsu. He nearly won a spot in the rotation this, his first year. He is now being redshirted because they have people better than him to play. Next year he will be given another shot to win a spot but the redshirt will pay off his senior year.

The Dobbites are arguing that he's the better QB and he may be. I just think you are reading and seeing what you want to see because you either are a fan of Dobbs or don't like Peterman. I on the other hand will be happy with either QB which gives me the freedom to see things as they are.

Dobbs will get a shot at QB again next year but don't be surprised if he is the backup. Judging by the last 2 years vs Peterman, it seems the most likely he will be #2.

:sigh:
Which has nothing to do with their current spot on the roster.

Just statin' facts chief. While you're fixated on something that you dont/can't know the reasons for, I'm simply pointing out what anyone and everyone witnessed from Peterman and Dobbs last year when they played qb for Tennessee.....in actual games, vs better teams than Florida, Dobbs performed light years better than Peterman.

I think Dormady has a decent chance to start. He's already a pretty big guy, his dad is apparently implementing the UT offense as his high school coach, and he's an EE.

Like you have over and over but it's still not relevant to who CBJ will start next year.
Both preformed like crap.

Peterman, Fla game. Nuff said

Dobbs 2 TD's to 6 Int's is awesome.

So they both sucked. CBJ keeps putting Peterman ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart. I have no idea why you think CBJ will suddenly change his mind based on your points when he's had this info and still put Peterman ahead of Dobbs.

At this point everything that can be said has been. So I'm bored with it and moving on. Don't worry, I'm sure there's other stuff we can argue about.

No, they didn't both suck. Peterman performed as arguably the worst qb in collegiate football history in his half vs Florida. Dobbs, while certainly playing poorly vs Auburn and Vandy, flashed very well at times. For example, as a skinny freshman expected to redshirt, completed nearly 60% of his passes, set a UT freshman record with 26 completions vs one of the best defenses in the SEC on the road in his first start, rattled off multiple 20+ yd runs and got a SEC win to boot. Dobbs certainly underwhelmed at times and clearly was not ready to play as a freshman, but he at least showed some poise and potential. It's not remotely fair or accurate to try and dismiss their performances as somehow equally awful. Peterman posted at qb rating of 42 in 2013. Dobbs' QBR vs Bama, Auburn, missouri, Vandy and Ky was 103.

He wasn't good enough this year to beat out a starting senior qb, agreed. But You don't redshirt a kid that's not good enough to significantly contribute to your program going forward. We already know that he performs much, much, much better than Peterman in a live game when the bullets start flying.

By redshirting him, the staff is investing an additional year in him, not moving him on and out of the program. Jones said a couple weeks ago that Josh is gonna make great contributions to the program in years to come. Unless either Dormady or Jennings are freshman prodigies, I think those contributions start next year as our starter.

Look who finally came around.:) Is it because Riley left and Dobbs is your second choice or is it because you actually see Dobbs potential?

You've had blinders on😉. ALL I did, EVER, was post & copy and paste articles, quotes and tweets from reliable sources (VolQuest guys, Daniel Lewis, Ainge, Swain, Callahan, Butch himself) that typically said Ferguson had the strongest arm of the bunch, was mobile and was splitting first team reps with Worley last in the Spring. Period. Not my opinion, just straight information from those who would know.

I also posted my opinion SEVERAL times about Dobbs saying the EXACT same thing I said in the post(s) you just responded to. I, along with Sjt18 and a few others like you, have been high on and in fact have defended Dobbs from several idiots on here trying to equate his performances with Peterman's from last year and say that Dobbs was horrible, which I've never believed.

For some unknown reason though, no one even had to give an opinion on Ferguson for some on here to go completely ape Shiite....all you had to do was cut and paste an article or interview of a coach or reporter saying Ferguson was challenging Worley for first team REPS, and people assumed you hated Dobbs/Peterman/Worley and went into full "you're a freakin idiot" hate mode.

You will not find a post from me, EVER, saying that I didn't think Dobbs is an SEC qb or hasnt shown or doesn't have good potential to be a very good qb at UT....because they don't exist.

Btw, Peterman was redshirted by Derek Dooley.

Also, please put me on ignore. My post was in response to someone else. I know what your silly, sophomoric thoughts are about our qb situation, have read it before, don't care to read it again. Please just respond to other posters and disregard mine. Put me on ignore please.

Once again, you ignore facts and refuse to answer very reasonable questions. ....Let's try this again.

Peterman clobbered Dobbs for the #2 spot in the Summer QB competition. Dobbs is expendable this season assuming #1 and #2 survive, so coach naturally intends to redshirt #3 if he can.
Your harsh criticism and dismissal of Peterman based on his brief play with a broken finger against Florida and jailhouse blitzes immediately smashing him down every play is beyond superficial.

Do you expect a QB with a broken finger and no experience to play well in a hostile environment?

Do you expect a QB with almost no experience to be effective with multiple blitzing defenders smashing into him two seconds after every snap? I only wonder how he didn't get injured absorbing blow after blow.

Obviously, you wan't to reconcile your low opinion of Peterman with the fact that the coaches disagree with you. The coaches realized Peterman beat Dobbs.

Why do you evade my questions KBVol? Do you ever hold yourself accountable to reason?

The post of a beaten man who knows he's lost the argument. No worries buddy, hang in there.

Why are you still running from my serious questions? You can't answer - and don't.
Here, we'll try this again... for you to evade answering.

It should be obvious to any casual observer that to those that count (AKA Head Coach) Peterman is ahead of Dobbs in the QB pecking order. No question that if he doesn't have to play, Dobbs will RS this year.

Unless Dobbs has some startling awakening, the pecking order going into next year will be the same - Peterman ahead of Dobbs. But next year there will be new QB material to consider. Within that expanded group both Peterman and Dobbs could fall back, but the likely situation is Peterman will stay ahead and Dobbs will fall back.

I am sure Dobbs will play some quality football at UT - just not necessarily at QB.

Making silly excuses for Dobbs being clobbered by Peterman while being dishonest about that FACT is not 'coming around'. Dobbs #3 position was no conspiracy to preserve him. Peterman beat him. Truth matters.

out of the three qb's on the current roster that has played in actual games for UT, Joshua Dobbs has the highest completion pct..

Then you'll be right while still utterly alone. :cray: In any case, redshirting Dobbs doesn't hurt him or anyone else...excepting you.

Then we're in great position next year...budding superstar Peterman and this year's version of Peterman as a backup...with two talented prospects learning...just in case the starter breaks his thumb with that slingshot throwing motion.

Stupid is as stupid does.
I've said Many times that I'd be happy to have Dobbs as the starter if he wins the spot. I just don't think he will given that he's been beaten out twice already.
But keep the Faith Buttchugna, maybe your guy will improve dramatically and we can both be happy. Cause right now he's behind Peterman.

Peterman the best practice qb and he may win it but when the hits start coming I don't see him making it then Dobbs will come in
