So everyone of us knows that we did not have the kind of day we wanted yesterday with the bigger names on our boards. But the reason I love recruiting (esp football recruiting) is that unlike a season when you finish 3-8, with recruiting you don't have to wait a full year to move on and forget about last year! The next recruiting year starts Day 1 today, and you can get good news at any time, and fight to finish. In short there is only really one bad day (even when you have a class you are not happy with).

I think this staff knows that recruiting is a full year 24 hr. job and I think they will work hard, and have good results when given a full year. These guys didn't even have set recruiting areas. Here's to hoping 2014 class is a top 10 class, with all the In state talent and legacy guys. GO VOLS!!

Actually day 1 for the 2014 recruiting class was awhile ago.

Well yea, but you know just as good as anybody that the current class is always at the forefront even when you are forming relationships with the next class. Today is day 1 where 2014 is the priority. It's a metaphor just go with it.

Can we go ahead and say CBJ didn't get a full year to recruit the 14' kids? 2015 that's the year!

The only reason Guz Malzahn had the success he did was because he recruited those kids when he was OC at Auburn. With all the travel, and trying to form relationships with kids you have prob never met (cause all the negative guys know Cincy doesn't recruit the same talent as SEC) shoot everyone knows that. If you think you can do all that in a month you are delusional my friend.

this years class will be a result of what happens on the football field.

Yea and that's the scary part with Tennessee schedule. Don't see many wins. Everyone Tennessee plays has more talent. And one WKU has possibly the best game day coach in all of college football.

Chip Kelly did not seem to have a problem making the move to a big time school and year 1 make a big impact.

The only thing I'm saying is you have to give the guy a chance on a level playing field before you say he can't recruit or coach. Everybody on here knows Dooley didn't do anything AT ALL the last 4 months on the job. Butch spent the month just trying to repair the damage Dooley did. Do I know if he is gonna be any good No, but I think he is a hard worker, and I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves me wrong.

Chip Kelley was OC at Oregon for two years again see Malzahn already recruited the kids and had relationships. Urban and Nick already won national championships that speaks for itself. None of your arguments apply to this. I'm telling you recruiting is all about RELATIONSHIPs. Trust in a coach is the number one thing recruits list.

I live in Bama. I have asked several friends. Both Aub and Bama fans to look at Tennessee schedule and show me the wins. Because as fans we want to make best case assumptions because we are fans. There is no one that thinks Tennessee makes a bowl game. This hire was so crucial for a big time recruiter for year. Tennessee looses so much next year to NFL. Why would any rb want to play for a online in SEC returning 0 starters?

And kiffin's kids all flamed out on drugs or arrests not exactly a good class, and at USC he was riding Pete Carroll momentum.

I'll agree with you finding wins next year is tough with the schedule and the bad defense and replacing our top playmakers on O plus add in a new system. That is why making a bowl game Period is a win. But regardless there is a reason they play the games.

Lol Brian Kelly my bad.

Even still, his first three classes at ND were ranked 14, 10, and 20. Really good class this year, following championship game appearance of course. 14, 10, and 20 is not very good at ND. They were doing that good or better before he got there.

Hmmm. I would like to bet against that. Do your auburn friends all think they are guaranteed a bowl game? Of course Bama thinks that we will not. Their fans all assume we are a walk in the park win for them (which granted has been true for a couple of years) but remember 2009 we had them on the ropes. It just takes some good coaching and we are back in the fight for the East. I for one look at Butch's body of work and see that he is driven to win, a real mentor that the kids look up to, and a great game day coach. I for one am all in for Butch.

I agree if Tennessee makes a bowl game CBJ should be coach of the year. I don't know if 6 wins gets top recruits excited? I think CBJ is the kind of coach that lets his wins recruit for him. And that scares me because in the SEC there are just so many coaches that are better. Sad but true.

Because both had won national championships previously. Come on man you can't expect a top 5 class with 31 days to recruit. Noone could have stepped into our situation and brought in a top 5 class. Not Saban, Miles, Meyer, or Gruden

After last year I am convinced if you could not out coach Derick Dooley you were not ever going to be mistaken for a good coach.
