Starting OL from now on after the Smith news

This is the thread to bring up how we move forward. The thread where people are discussing the effect this condition is having on the young man himself is not. There is pompous and there is clueless and classless.
What if your all 3?

I get that everyone is concerned with game tomorrow and hearing that Trey is out. My comment was for the ones that immediately after hearing the news, was more worried about the game than his health. A person can think it, but why post it? Just looks insensitive. Must be the mother in me that thinks that.
I understand that too. Wish that young man all the best.

Chance doesnt really posses the lateral hip asertion it takes to play tackle on either side. He is much more suited for a guard.
Every offensive lineman on our roster is more suited to play guard, including Trey Smith. Richmond is the closest thing we have to a true tackle. Our offensive line is a collection of misfits, including the center position. Niehaus and Tatum aren't any more athletic than Hall, IMO. Regardless of who we put at LT, we'll have to scheme around a weakness. Morris and Wright can't get here soon enough.

You know, considering how much pentration our OL naturally allows, I would think screen passes would fool them every time.

Also, after about the 4th or 5th screen pass, the DL would have to hesitate allowing more time for the deep 50/50 balls which with our tall guys are more like 80/20 balls.

I get the feeling they're trying to redshirt Tatum. Just a hunch.

I'd like to see Jahmir Johnson at OT instead of Guard.
Don't know if Johnson played against Bama. He had a slight injury at Auburn and sat out remainder of the game. He's the lightest lineman we have and well-suited for LG because he pulls well to the right. I'm favoring Richmond at JG's left and Hall at JG's right. I'd have to have a TE beside Richmond and alert my running backs to protect the QB's blind side. JG fumbles a lot when hit from behind.

Niehaus, Carvin, Locklear, Hall, Richmond

Tempting to put Richmond at LT but he is just now starting to play decently at RT. I say leave him there. Put a blocking TE or another Tackle eligible OL next to Niehaus. Have RB focus on blocking assistance on the Right side.

Contrary to popular belief, Chance Hall graded out well at Guard last week. I just don't know if he is ready to go back to OT.

Or just go with the Jumbo package of 2 TEs and either 3 WR or 2 plus RB. Maybe Jumbo package with wildcat too.

Carvin was a liability at LG last week.

We are the NY Giants of college football. Bad OLs make it tough to have offensive efficiency and win at any sort of consistent level. I think we have a shot with next 5 games to do OK if they really block as a cohesive unit. We aren't devoid of talent, but we're going to have to play solid to get past SC.
Defense is gonna tire if the O can't move the chains consistently. I'd play JG for a qtr. and see if he still has what seems to be indecisiveness. If the chains don't move much, I'm hoping Chryst get's another chance. It may be that he has the ability to read the field faster and better.

Anybody think we will start rolling the QB out to the right more often?
Not by design. QB will have to do it on his own. Then you'll have confused receivers with this team at this point. Could be a huge advantage if the receivers knew they would have to adjust their routes prior to the snap. An experienced OC would have considered this in spring ball.

Yes, I think JG may have a short leash this weekend, more about health concerns than ability, and probably increased confidence in Chryst after last week. I still also think there's a chance that Chryst gets the start if Pruitt hasn't showed all his cards on JG injury. QB's not the biggest of our concerns...both are capable. Just don't want to get JG hurt again. JG's gonna want out there on the field if team docs will let him.

Keep flaring out rb's and get ball to ty. Get the ball to TE's with little flare outs in space or cross the middle. If you can't run the ball then scheme it to get it to the back and let them run it in space. Just hope helton doesn't go dumb **** on us tomorrow.
Muschump is gonna load the box to shut down our run. Even though we don't have a run IMO we still keep on doing it. I'd try to isolate JJ or Callaway with one on one match-ups and see if we can get it. Depending on how they react, I'm gonna look for Ty. Keep the routes short to beat the blitz. Use the pass to set -up the run. The reason is our receivers can beat their DB's consistently. Hopefully once they see that they'll quit packing the box and QB will have more time to throw deeper passes, set-up screens. Running for 2-3 yard gains negates all this and isn't our stength. Seems to me UT insists on doing it though and that's what I don't understand.

I wonder what the starting OL will be now with Smith out? Who moves to LT? I think this is going to be a huge test for Pruitt. He has lost the best player on the team. Its going to be interesting moving forward. So thoughts?
Well I didn’t think trey smith was playing like his normal self all season but anyway isn’t Jamir Johnson a candidate or chance hall?
