Starters vs Duke?

The nice thing about Boswell (in the 9th player spot not as your starting 2 guard) is that we’ve already seen him in that role. The floor for him is pretty established as a guy that’s not going to blow you away, but who also probably isn’t going to kill you in spot minutes. I expect he’ll be a little better than last year which is totally fine for short spells but makes me nervous if we’re counting on him for longer stretches.

Exactly. If a guy is “recruited over,” he shouldn’t be on the roster. Boswell is on this one, so he’s here to compete.

Maybe Boswell has actally improved. I remember last year when Phillips was an absolute after thought and would make no contribution according to the so called experts on this board. Barnes trusts defenders and it's likely he's ahead of the newcomers in that category.

Or maybe those 2 have earned a starting position from their practice performances?

Carey and Boswell are the two most reliable on defense. It’s as simple as that. We’ll see a lot of rotation at the 2 and 4 as they feel out chemistry. I’d imagine we’ll be working through November and possibly longer.

Maybe Phillips and Estrella need to not risk aggravating previous injuries in a practice game. They don’t need the work as much as the freshmen and transfers.

Boswell has earned an opportunity. If he fails to contribute then there’s no risk in losing a game tgat matters.

IIRC, last year in the Indiana exhibition, Barnes obviously did not care about game outcome and played some… interesting… lineups all night. Expecting the same tomorrow after this lineup drop.

Yeah that's my point as well. We all know Coach Barnes and he will use this for exactly what its meant to be...a high-profile SCRIMMAGE. I think we'll see him play with the lineup a lot...different combo's (he always uses practices/scrimmages to do that). Doubt he cares too much what the score is...

Yup. We lost our exhibition last year to Indiana, and we showed during the season we were vastly superior to them.

Purdue loses their scrimmage every year it seems.

Houston lost their game last week and Sampson was quoted after by saying “I played 12 guys in the first half” when questioned about it.

I misinterpreted shoulder harness to mean a sling. Looks like they meant one of those protective braces. They appear fine.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Rick is sending a message to the other players when he’s speaking publicly. Apparently if there is anybody who would take his minutes they are not doing the things defensively that they will need to do to take them.

If Ament and Gillespie have the usage they did today, our SG may not take shots anyway (not too mad about this if they shoot better)
