I know there have been many of these types of post in the past, but with nsd this week...I figured I'd remind everyone. The top 2 players on both teams last night weren't 5*'s out of highschool
Baltimore
Flaco-Delaware
Jacoby jones-lane college

San Francisco
Kapernick-Nevada
Crabtree-tx tech

Who cares about the super bowl?
It's the SEC championship that matters.

Had some time to kill and decided to do a little research on the NFL pro bowlers to see how many stars they had coming out of HS. There were a few surprises. A few 2 and 3 star notables:

Ray Rice 3*
Matt Ryan 3*
Brandon Marshall 2*
Elvis Dumervil 3*
Demaryius Thomas 3*
Arian Foster 3*
JJ Watt 2*
Victor Cruz 2*
Patrick Willis 3*
Russell Wilson 2*
Doug Martin 2*

In high school Eddie George got one offer, a partial scholarship to a small college. He kept growing and getting faster as a JUCO player before he got the big time offers including Ohio State. No telling what kind of development curve a 17 year old is on. Still, it sure seems like it's the four and five star players that jump up to beat us in SEC games. Clowney comes to mind for one.

JJ Watt was a 2*? Wow.

Yeah he was a Tight End going into college like somebody previously mentioned. He was listed as a WDE, but Central Michigan (where he commited) was recruiting him as a TE so they limited him to a 2* rating. Many felt like he could've been a good project DE.. Which obviously was true when he transferred to Wisconsin.

On the flip side I'd like to remind you that Bama has signed more 5 stars than anyone the last few years and has won 3 of the last 4 NCs so..............

sigh... smfh...

once again, pointing out the exception like it is an indicator of something statistically relevant

I'm a lot more interested in knowing which 2* or 3* kids from this years class will be an all-american in 2-3 years.

I do think we (myself included) get way to caught up in this. While having the best rectruits possible is important it does not mean a hill of beans if they are not coached up. I have my fingers crossed with this staff. I trust them.

Stars aren't the end all of evaluations. It's just a projection. Why people get so hung up on stars is beyond me. Is a 4*or 5* player more likely to be a star on the field, absolutely. But there are always exceptions to the rule. Diligent work ethic along with god given talent = success in college and the NFL.
