Before we found out we had a legit top level QB for JH system, I truthfully was thinking 7-5 or 8-4 would be our ceiling. No idea if we will run the table or go 10-2, 9-3 or worse, but I feel really good about where we are...especially if we get our injured DBs back out on the field. SEC is a gauntlet, and OK/UF/Bama/Vandy/ARK all showing signs of life, but everyone's going to have to earn it from us the rest of the way.

We were in position to beat arguably the best team in college football the last 5 years and we didn't execute. With a healthy Moi, Gibson and McCoy this game isn’t even close so chill out and see how the season plays out. This team still has a legitimate shot at being 11-1 with some lucky breaks.

It would take a lot more lucky breaks for the Vols to finish 11-1. You would also have to have some Vegas Mafia figures to break some kneecaps on the opposition. This is not an 11-1 team by any imagination. 'Bama beats us by 3 TDs.

It just amazes me that we criticize Heupel for doing so poorly against Kirby, then he pantsed him with a juco QB no one wanted, throwing 177 yards to a 3* WR and a RB no one on this board even heard of from *checks notes* DUKE, and we still gripe.

People are going to say I’m overreacting and all we had to do was make a field goal. However we should’ve won by 3 possessions today, but couldn’t get off of the field in critical times because we have guys on the field that shouldn’t be out there. Which was understandable early on under this staff, but we’re in year 5 and this staff has had 3 full recruiting cycles to get their roster constructed, and the defensive side of the ball looks just like it did in year 2. I know we had some injuries, but we should be at the point now where we don’t get blown off the line of scrimmage or have DBs don’t even get their hands up when the ball is in the air. I know Jermod McCoy is a first round pick, but it’s not like we’re missing 2 day 1 or 2 NFL picks on our DL. We never landed a true successor for Omari Thomas, and contrary to popular belief you still have to have a space eater in the middle that can draw and even get through double teams. We’ve also yet to land a HS corner outside of Rickey Gibson that can play with the ball in the air. Conyer and Goree were never SEC corners, Jordan Matthews was a bust or under developed, and Kaleb Beasley is playing safety. With the sample size we’ve had so far it’s not a stretch of the imagination at all that Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood are as good as they are because of the development they got at their previous schools. If we don’t start landing DTs and corners that are the same caliber as the DEs and LBs we’re recruiting we’re never going to take that next step. Heupel can’t just be another Dan Mullen who is a great offensive mind, but an above average staff builder and recruiter
